BloodRayne, a game that sees players take on the role of half-vampire Rayne as she battles against vampires, zombies, and everything else you'd expect from a grimdark universe, initially released in 2002. The game was received well by fans and critics, even being seen by some as one of the best vampire games. Though, even with a successful sequel released in 2004, and a movie adaptation in 2005, BloodRayne was effectively left dead in the water in the beginning of the 2010s.

A new publisher in the form of Ziggurat Interactive sought to change that though, and attempt to revive the BloodRayne franchise somewhat. Working alongside original developer Terminal Reality, Ziggurat announced in 2020 that BloodRayne would be receiving improvements through the enhanced editions of the game, or Terminal Cuts of BloodRayne 1 & 2, and these editions were free for anyone who owned the original versions of the game.

In 2021, in light of the positive reception for the enhanced editions, it was announced that BloodRayne: ReVamped would be coming to Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The ReVamped versions of the game were marketed more as remasters than enhanced editions, and would be available alongside some big changes to the original BloodRayne titles. Now though, BloodRayne: ReVamped is apparently coming to PS5 after the remasters initially dropped in November 2021. As with the other versions of BloodRayne, the PS5 edition received a rating of M for Mature, with ESRB detailing the violence and blood that one would expect from a vampire game.

Apart from BloodRayne 1 and 2, there was a spin-off game titled BloodRayne: Betrayal, though this game has yet to be remastered. Released in 2011, this was the latest release of a new BloodRayne game, despite the game being over ten years old. The developer of BloodRayne: Betrayal, WayForward, has expressed interest in creating a new game for the BloodRayne franchise though, and with even next-gen consoles experiencing the ReVamped editions now, it may be a great time for a fully next-gen BloodRayne experience to drop.

While many have been able to get their fill of vampire games thanks to titles like the upcoming battle royale Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodhunt. However, fans who have been longing for the singleplayer, Nazi-killing hack and slash experience that is BloodRayne are left longing for a new title, though hopefully with all the remasters and enhanced editions making their way to PS5, a new BloodRayne title may be coming soon.

BloodRayne: Revamped and BloodRayne 2: Revamped are available now for PlayStation 4/5, Switch, and Xbox One.
