The success of Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne all established the Soulslike genre, with the recent release of Elden Ring ensuring that the spin-off genre FromSoftware pioneered is going nowhere. There are multiple Soulslike games in development and available on the market, but perhaps one of the most unique is a 2023 title called Lies of P.

Lies of P sees players take on a role of the mechanical puppet Pinocchio, who finds himself on a journey to become human. Combining a dark take on the Belle Epoque period with the technical combat of the Soulslike genre truly makes Lies of P stand out, akin to how Bloodborne stands out from its contemporaries, and it has garnered a lot of attention as a result. Its Gamescom Opening Night Live trailer was easily one of the highlights of the night, but it seems developer Round8 wasn't content with that alone.

As part of Gamescom 2022 proper, Round8 has debuted a 12-minute gameplay video of Lies of P. This clip gives fans a good glimpse at the general atmosphere to expect, the tight corridors players will find themselves in, some of the weapons in Lies of P, and a variety of enemies too. For anyone who has been following the game, this gameplay video is a worthwhile investment.

Between its ONL trailer and this gameplay video, these make Lies of P even more exciting than before. To see so much information after a relatively quiet period is welcoming and exciting for its eventual release. It is slated as a 2023 PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X title, but for latter fans, it's worth mentioning that Lies of P has also been confirmed for Xbox Game Pass. This will no doubt give the Soulslike an even bigger popularity boost, and it'll be interesting to see how it performs at release. It has a lot of promise, at the very least.

Of course, it's not the only Soulslike on Game Pass, but it's definitely an area fans could get more out of the service. It should be noted that Moonscars is coming to Game Pass in September, a 2D Soulslike where a "clayborne" woman named Grey Irma looks for her creator known as the Sculptor. Interestingly enough, that could perhaps be compared to the premise of Lies of P, but it's clear these two titles are distinct despite their similarities, such is the wide appeal of the Soulslike genre.

Lies of P is currently scheduled to release in 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
