Every so often, a new rumor regarding a potential Bloodborne remaster crops up. These typically generate a ton of hype but prove to be paper thin, evidenced by the fact that there is still no new Bloodborne remaster to date. The latest rumor may fall into the same trap, but fans have turned to asking for a PS5 upgrade and it seems a new rumor corroborate that possibility.

If it proves true, those fans will be able to play Bloodborne: Hunter's Edition next year not long after Elden Ring releases. Yet, for those who are interested in how valid this rumor is, here's a complete breakdown of it origins, what it entails, and how likely it is to be true.

Bloodborne: Hunter's Edition Rumor and Leak Origins

A rumor or leak is only as good as its source, with many rumors or leaks dying at this point. The existence of an upcoming Bloodborne upgrade, at least this time around, comes from SoulsHunt, who previously leaked Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin prior to its reveal. For many, this at least means the original source is credible enough, but it's a been more layered than that. SoulsHunt's leak of a Bloodborne PS5 upgrade is supposedly backed up by a 4chan user named Demonite.

Demonite is the leaker that had originally discussed Bloodborne prior to its proper reveal, but there's no actual proof that this Demonite is THAT Demonite. In other words, because of SoulsHunt's leak, it's believable that a Bloodborne PS5 upgrade is in the works. However, the details of it (which all come from Demonite) are the big question marks here. Demonite offers no evidence of their identity or their claim, and that's a big strike against this "leak." Not to mention, it's not likely that SoulsHunt's mention of it was ever meant to be conflated with Demonite's.

Bloodborne: Hunter's Edition Content and Upgrades

According to Demonite, Bloodborne: Hunter's Edition will feature the following:

  • No new levels
  • No changes to Chalice Dungeons
  • No new Bosses or enemies
  • Expanded Cainhurst Castle and Cathedral Ward levels
  • 3 new right-hand weapons: The Cainhurst Flail, The Coldblood Coil, and the Kos Placenta
  • 3 new left-hand weapons: The Cosmic Revolver, The Impact Rifle, and The Great One's Touch
  • Choice of Quality Mode (30 FPS, 4K, ray-tracing) OR Performance Mode (60 FPS, 1440p upscaled to 4K)
  • NPC lip-syncing
  • QOL updates: colorblind filters, improved loading times, remappable controls, area warping without visiting the dream, and more

As with other PS5 Director's Cut games, there's various tiers for purchase. The Hunter's Edition includes Bloodborne's DLC and will be a free upgrade for those who own the Game of the Year Edition. It will cost $10 for those who own the base game and DLC, while it will cost $20 to upgrade for those who own the base game but not the DLC.

Bloodborne: Hunter's Edition - Is It Coming to PC and PS5, and When?

According to Demonite, Bloodborne Hunter's Edition will launch on the PS5 platform for a limited time. It'll come to PC about 6 months to a year later, which falls in line with Sony's tendency to push PS platforms first.

How Likely is the Bloodborne Hunter's Edition Leak to Be True

bloodborne (1)

SoulsHunt's assertion that a Bloodborne PS5 upgrade/remaster is in the works falls in line with recent trends, the game's popularity among other PS exclusives, and more. Releasing an upgraded version of the game, especially with an upcharge from Sony, only makes sense. It's happened most recently with Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding, and it's unlikely to end there. Unfortunately, that doesn't really validate this Demonite's assertions.

First, the source is as questionable as it gets which should be a full-stop for many fans. One compensation technique among fake leakers is to throw a lot of details out there to feign authority, but that's a typical backfire because, in this case, this Demonite would have to be far more intimately familiar with the project than most people who have heard of something similar. It's also a bit of an aside, but saying it's happening now after Elden Ring's announcement had fans craving a Bloodborne PC/PS5 port is an unusual coincidence if so. More likely, it was the inspiration for such claims. Finally, Demonite's post is full of small grammatical errors, something sometimes indicative of a rushed, not so serious claim.

Ultimately, it's up to fans what to believe, but that belief doesn't make it true. It would seem that both Sony and FromSoftware would just be leaving money on the table by not offering something for Bloodborne on PS5. After all, many other popular games are getting upgrades and new releases, with Bloodborne up there with Spider-Man, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, and Horizon Zero Dawn in terms of popularity. A Bloodborne PS5 upgrade seems like a matter of time, but that doesn't mean Bloodborne: Hunter's Edition is it though.

Bloodborne is available now on PS4 and is rumored to be released for PC/PS5.
