  • Bloodborne fans have been clamoring for more content, but a remake may not happen until more powerful hardware is available.
  • While a new video game may be on hold, a Bloodborne anime on Netflix would be a perfect fit given the success of similar adaptations.
  • Bloodborne's eerie setting, epic battles, and rich lore make it an ideal candidate for an animated series with focus on key characters.

Out of all the FromSoftware games, Bloodborne is likely the one that receives the most fan requests for more content. Bloodborne fans have been very vocal over the years about their desire to see something new from the IP, whether that be a remake, a PC port, or even a full-fledged sequel, and the internet is constantly flooded with rumors suggesting one of these projects is in development. However, as much as Bloodborne deserves more video game content, it would also be a perfect contender to make the jump to the animated medium with a Netflix anime in the same style as Castlevania or Devil May Cry.

Despite the consistent calls for new Bloodborne content from fans, FromSoftware's Hidetaka Miyazaki recently quashed some of those rumors by stating that a Bloodborne remake likely wouldn't happen until more powerful hardware exists to justify it. While this news might be disappointing for fans, that hasn't stopped rumors of other projects like a Bloodborne PC port from circulating. It seems like fans hoping for a new way to experience Bloodborne in the near future will need to look outside the gaming sphere, which makes it an ideal IP to be adapted into an anime.

Bloodborne is a Prime Candidate for a Netflix Anime

Film adaptations of video games have historically been a mixed bag due to the interactive nature of games having a hard time translating to a passive medium like movies or TV series. However, Netflix has recently found a formula for success with several of its animated series based on iconic game franchises. The platform introduced the first season of its Castlevania anime series back in 2017, and it has since gone on to receive critical acclaim and a total of four seasons, sparking a surge of animated adaptations of popular game franchises.

Following the success of Netflix's Castlevania, the streaming service released a follow-up series in the form of Castlevania: Nocturne in 2023. Additionally, a new animated series based on Capcom's Devil May Cry franchise is set to premiere later this year, demonstrating that Netflix is committed to investing in exciting new series based on games for the platform. With these shows in mind, it would make a lot of sense for Bloodborne to receive a similar adaptation, since it falls into a similar category as these games and has already received adaptations into other forms of media, such as a graphic novel series.

What a Bloodborne Anime Could Look Like

While it might seem like a Soulslike wouldn't translate well to a TV series, Bloodborne is a game that has all the elements a successful anime adaptation needs. It has a hauntingly beautiful setting in Yharnam that combines Gothic and Victorian architecture with cosmic horror monstrosities for an aesthetic that would be on par with that of Castlevania and even Devil May Cry. Similar to those series, Bloodborne has enough action and epic battles that could make for fantastic animated scenes in the over-the-top style anime series are known for.

There are also a lot of great characters and lore within Bloodborne that could be fleshed out in an animated Netflix series. The show could explore a character like Lady Maria and dig into Gehrman's obsession with her, or the fan-favorite Eileen the Crow and her history as a Hunter of Hunters, following her journey as she tracks down hunters who've become blood-drunk and mad from the hunt. A tragic character like Father Gascoigne also deserves an appearance, and the show could be formatted in such a way that each episode focuses on the individual tales of one of Bloodborne's major characters and the lore surrounding them.
