There are a lot games coming out this month, and while many of them are cross-platform, some will be released as exclusives, giving players ample reason to make sure they have the right system in store for the storm of games over the horizon. Of the Xbox console exclusives coming out in the near future, many are hard to pin down into a specific category, but one of the definite oddballs is a team-hero-combat game from Ninja Theory called Bleeding Edge.

Bleeding Edge is a 4v4 hero-centered combat game that sees teams competing to either hold points or deliver power capsules to certain map points, all while battling it out in combo-centric (for some characters) gameplay. The game is very close to its release date, but even with the official release just down the road, Ninja Theory decided to slip one more character into the game before it exits Beta.

The new character introduced is named Mekko, and he is a study in both puns and point defense. As is obvious of a game originally designed to be MOBA similar to League of Legends, colorful characters are one of the most important parts of Bleeding Edge, giving flavor and personality in an attempt to stand out from a crowd of similar games. Mekko certainly fits the bill, being a dolphin that uses a mechanized walker to transport his massive fishbowl around the arena. Not only is he a literal tank, being inside a water tank all the time, his name is also a pun: a mix of Mech and Ekko, as in the game Ecco the Dolphin.

Mekko has a toolset focused on disruption and survival, and while Ninja Theory's tried and true action gameplay will most likely not manifest in him, that doesn't mean he won't be fun to pick up. Mekko has a relatively close range Sonar Gun to blast foes, as well as a Lifeline that allows Mekko to take damage for an ally and pull them to safety. He can also Surge into enemies to knock them back and place a Safety Zone to aid allies and himself. He has a choice of two Ultimate moves, either blasting enemies backwards from range or trapping one inside a bubble, as well as the option to give himself a bubble shield. All this for the low low price of free thanks to Bleeding Edge having no microtransactions.

Plus, Bleeding Edge will be coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch, so many players will truly be able to try out Mekko without having to break out their wallet.

Bleeding Edge will officially release on March 24 for Xbox One, Windows 10, and Steam.
