Bleach is a series that needs no introduction, with the exploits of Ichigo being quite fun despite this protagonist not being all that riveting in the eyes of many. Regardless, it's the spectacle of Bleach that sells it, and it helps that the supporting cast is so great that most players are willing to forgive an uninteresting lead character.

The series doesn't shy away from its more disturbing moments, with Bleach showing the dark side of how much honor can blind people. Of course, the usual notion of one's ambition being too big to contain also lends itself to many messed-up scenes that will traumatize many fans, with Tite Kubo showing the vile nature of many characters in this series.

7 Nobody In Soul Society Raising A Finger To Help Kakyo

Kakyo in Bleach

The trio who betray Soul Society and defect have their own reasons, with Tosen's being pretty justified. After forming a great friendship with his childhood friend, Kakyo, Tosen is heartbroken to know that she was killed by her husband just because she called her partner out for killing someone over a trivial matter.

This man had a high position in Soul Society, and Central 46 ultimately refused to bring this man to justice. This angered Tosen to no end, and he decided to become a Shinigami himself while wanting to take out the hierarchy that had plagued this place for so long.

6 Byakuya Actively Aiding In His Sister's Execution

Honor is held in high regard in Soul Society, but there are times when this obsession with being as honorable as possible becomes a bit too ridiculous for its own good. Such is the case during the Soul Society arc, where Rukia is punished by the higher-ups for breaking the code and giving an outsider the powers of a Shinigami.

The fact that Rukia's brother himself spearheaded this execution showed how much pressure noble families were under to uphold this code. Thankfully, Ichigo helps him see the light after an amazing confrontation, with both fighters unleashing their Bankai and engaging in an amazing battle that is a blast to witness in every way.

5 Ichigo Losing His Sanity In His Vasto Lorde Form

After being completely dominated by Ulquiorra during their fight, most people assumed that Ichigo was toast. However, his Hollow side reared its ugly head and completely took over Ichigo's body, leading to the man coming back from certain death and ripping Ulquiorra apart.

However, this savagery wasn't limited to just his enemy — Ichigo was so far gone that he turned on his own friends as well. This could've ended really badly, but the man finally regained before he could've killed both Uryu and Inoue.

4 The Manner In Which Szayelaporro Granz Dies

Bleach's Szayelaporro Granz in his released state

There's no denying that Szayelaporro Granz is a horrible villain who deserved to meet his end at some point or the other. However, the manner in which he dies is so horrid that even his biggest critics can't help but feel sad at the manner of his demise.

After being injected with a drug that makes his senses as sensitive as possible, Mayuri simply stabs this Arrancar in the heart. While this may sound like a simple death, Granz's senses made him feel like he was experiencing his moment of pure agony for a hundred years, outright begging for his death near the end of his lifespan with his mind going into overdrive right up until his death.

3 Orihime's Mental Torture At The Hands Of The Espada

Orihime's abduction by Aizen and Co. during the events of the Arrancar arc definitely touches upon the similar damsel-in-distress tone that was used in the Soul Society arc. While this has been a source of major complaint for fans, there's no denying that Orihime's imprisonment was way more torturous.

She was psychologically tortured by Ulquiorra, beaten down by Loly & Menoly, and is forced to see Ichigo being beaten down by Tesra after his fight against Grimmjow. These are just a few of the many events that could've broken anyone's mind, but Orihime somehow managed to retain her sanity despite being tortured at such a young age.

2 Tsukishima Being Able To Rewrite A Person's Memory

Bleach Ruthless Characters Shūkurō Tsukishima

The Fullbring arc is certainly a lowlight in Bleach's run, even if it may not be as bad as most people would assume. Kubo used some very interesting ideas here, with Tsukishima's Book of the End being a riveting ability that made the latter half of this arc pretty interesting in its own way.

One particularly notable ability is Tsukishima being able to insert himself in the mind of a person, making them believe that he's been a part of their lives all along. Ichigo's struggles as he tries to prevent this monster from taking over his life is an interesting moment in the arc, even if the Fullbringers themselves seem like they come out of nowhere and don't really justify their existence later on in Bleach.

1 Kenpachi And Unohana's Monstrous Confrontation

Bleach: The Thousand-Year Blood War is a much-needed conclusive arc that fans were pining for after the original anime ended its run prematurely. There are many great moments that have already taken place in this arc, with Kenpachi and Unohana's battle being particularly nightmarish.

The idea of Unohana killing Kenpachi only to bring him back time and time again to help him reach the true extent of his power over the course of three days is already pretty disturbing. However, what makes things worse is that Unohana was willing to sacrifice herself just so that this man could become a massive threat and take out the Sternritter, which had many eerie ramifications of its own.
