Gregori Weaver appears in Black Ops series for Call of Duty, assisting the player in tracking down Nova-6 and the masterminds behind it. Working closely with the player during covert missions, he becomes an iconic character in the series. Despite this, he only appears in two games.
Weaver appears in Black Ops and Black Ops Cold War only. While he has an important role in the first game's campaign, he became the leader of a zombie hunting strike team in the latest installment. He does not see action, instead acting as the team's announcer. Despite his limited appearances, with a little snooping, players can discover some interesting background about Weaver.
10 He Was Born In The USSR
If the player reads Weaver's dossier, they learn he was born in the Soviet Union. His father was a local figure who was killed during Stalin's purges. This caused his mother to defect to the United States during World War II, bringing Weaver with her.
Weaver also had a younger sister who he believed died during the purge. However, Intel reveals she lived, instead dying in child birth in the USSR in 1955. At an unknown point, Weaver joined the CIA and started to work against his former homeland.
9 He Has A Niece In The KGB
Weaver discovered that his sister survived Stalin's Purge and was adopted into a new family. She went on to marry and have a daughter, whom Weaver believes lives in Moscow. Weaver is desperate to find his niece as she is the only blood relative he has left. Despite this, a high-ranking individual says not to search for her.
It is revealed through other messages and intel that Weaver's niece, Kristina Raskova, worked for the KGB and GRU. She would be part of an operation to eliminate Alex Mason, but it seems the mission was canceled.
8 Classified As Enemy Because Of Operation
During the operation to eliminate Mason, Weaver was also a target. The CIA believed Weaver and Jason Hudson were helping Mason, and designated them as enemies. The CIA was to team up with MI-6 and eliminate the trio whom they saw as threats to the country. The mission was most likely canceled, as Weaver appears in Cold War Black Ops as part of the faction Requiem.
Intel from the zombie map Firebase Z also mentions that Weaver was designated as an enemy of the CIA, but this was rescinded at a later date. This designation also caused trouble, with some agents not wanting to lead the strike team.
7 Became Leader Of Zombie Fighting Force
Despite some agents pushing against Weaver being the strike force leader, he was eventually promoted to the position. He dealt with anomalies and zombie outbreaks around the world. After being contacted by his associate, Samantha Maxis, he would lead a strike team to close a rift at an old Nazi base.
Other missions included one to an old base in Vietnam and another mission to the Ural Mountains. He did all of this to combat a Soviet group, Omega Group, from obtaining the technology and research relating to these outbreaks.
6 His Accent Varies At Times
At random points during the Black Ops campaign, players can notice that Weaver's accent changes, going from a Russian one to an American one. While some might assume the accent changes come from Weaver growing up in the United States, the change is too drastic.
A good example of this can be found in the mission WMD in Black Ops. During the part where he tells players there is an RPG on the ridge, a deep Russian accent can be heard. When preparing to infiltrate the base, however, he says 'Ready when you are' with a distinct American accent.
5 He Believed Reznov Was In Vietnam
Throughout the campaign, Weaver believed that Reznov was actually alive and assisting the team in Vietnam. Weaver was not on the missions, he only read about the debriefs from Mason afterwards. It isn't until after the events on Rebirth Island that Weaver discovers the truth.
After Mason shoots Steiner, Weaver tells Hudson that they need to go and find Reznov. Hudson reveals there never was a Reznov, and that he died during the Vorkuta escape.
4 His Trust In Alex Mason Goes Away
When Weaver is first rescued by Frank Woods and Mason, he is thankful and holds them in high regards. However, as time goes on and Weaver sees Mason's mind worsen, the friendship starts to fall apart. Weaver started to worry about Mason, even thinking that he could be a traitor.
In a private conversation with Hudson, Weaver mentions that Mason should be put out of his misery. Luckily, it seems Mason's mind eventually improved and he beat the brainwashing.
3 He Wears Lightweight Class Outfit In Numbers
Weaver goes with Hudson to interrogate a Nova-6 scientist in the mission "Numbers". What players might not have paid much attention to, though, is Weaver's outfit. With the fast-paced action and shooting this is understandable.
Weaver wears the same outfit as the Urban Black Ops Lightweight class from multiplayer. There are a few differences, such as no hat and Weaver having the eyepatch.
2 Woods References Weaver In Black Ops II
During the mission "Old Wounds" in Black Ops II, Kravchenko is revealed to be alive and is captured by the player. During the first game, this antagonist stabbed Weaver in the eye and left him for dead. Woods remembers this, threatening Kravchenko with the same fate.
Woods will ask Kravchenko is he believes in an eye for an eye. Weaver is avenged either by the player or by Woods, as Kravchenko will be shot and killed.
1 Weaver's Terminal Password Is Gedeon
Players can access Weaver's private messages by using the username GWEAVER and the password GEDEON. The password is a reference to his father who was killed in the purges. Reading through the messages will reveal Weaver's distrust of Mason, as well as a humorous exchange.
Weaver set Mason up on a date with a woman named Sarah Leary. Weaver says this is payback for rescuing him, but sadly Mason blows it. Sarah emails Weaver, saying Mason kept talking about Reznov, Dragovich, and the numbers. She ends the message saying Mason needs some serious help, with Mason sending a message afterwards saying the date went terrible.
