Black Clover as an anime provides a myriad of arcs while using the fundamentals of Shonen storytelling, and the one contributing factor to its success can be attributed to the story and journey of its main character, Asta. While he certainly may be a loud protagonist at times, and Asta is prone to shouting out his dreams for everybody to hear within earshot, he's also surprisingly one of the more inspirational protagonists in Shonen. As to what exactly makes him inspiring, it depends on who you ask and how you phrase it, but many of Asta's actions and his journey from a magic less nobody to a well-recognized Magic Knight are not to be ignored.

Black Clover as an anime started off with our protagonist in a small village in the outskirts of the Clover Kingdom, where he was known as the only kid in the village without magic. In fact, later throughout his journey it is revealed that he is the only person in the kingdom to have been born without any form of magic. Over the course of his journey, Asta grows as a person, makes bonds with his fellow Magic Knight's, and inspires many characters in Black Clover as well as fans of the show. Of course, that begs the question of how exactly does Asta even inspire people, and what traits of his character are important to note?

Never-Ending Self-Improvement

Despite the great heights Asta has achieved ever since the start of his journey, he wasn't always as strong or physically built compared to the rest. We've become familiar with his Anti-Magic and his Grimoire, but it needs to be said that Asta trained his body doing manual labor in his village as far back as season 1, and even since he was a young little tyke. Because he was never born with magic, he figured that he would make up for lack of magic with an abundance of physical strength. Even after he got his grimoire and was given a fighting chance, he never stopped his training or bothered to settle for comfort.

This training and self-improving attitude is even more noticeable when his peers and other characters begin to notice the fruits of his efforts. For example, it was his support towards Noelle's training to control her magic that inspired her to not give up even in the face of adversity or rejection. And this eventually lead into making her one of the most useful Magic Knights of the Black Bulls, because she in a lot of ways was inspired by Asta's own attitude and perseverance. Of course, she's not the only one who was inspired by Asta's improvement. Everybody in the Black Bulls, to even some side characters from the other squads learn from him, whether they like to admit it or not. Asta's inspiring to many of his fellow peers and the people in the Clover Kingdom, but this doesn't restrict itself to merely fiction.

A Model To Aspire To

Asta in Black Clover

Asta's the perfect example of a hero who faces adversity and opposition from nearly every naysayer, as well as the enemies that threaten his kingdom and his friends. However, to many audiences and fans, what he represents is something far more personal and real to life. Many feel beaten down by the world they live in, and it can seem easy to give up, blame the world, or just settle for what you have. However, what Asta does for his friends and kingdom is inspiring to fans because of the context of his upbringing as well as his own moments of self-doubt. Despite how easily rambunctious he is, Asta has come face-to-face with the reality that he could never become Wizard King or a Magic Knight for his entire life, and yet he still manages to psyche himself and motivate himself to keep improving and fighting against the odds.

As a result of this, it is very possible for many fans to have started their own life-changing activities and goals thanks to the actions of Asta, who mirrors and represents the hard-worker ideal of a generation. Especially since compared to most Shonen protagonists, Asta isn't anybody special from birth, even after he gains his Grimoire. This aspect of his character serves only to further push the idea that even someone who is a relative nobody can become somebody great with enough dedication and hard work to achieve your goals. It's become no wonder why Asta is an inspiring character to many people who watch Black Clover. His determination and self-growth is apparent, although so is also his sense of right and wrong, standing up for the downtrodden and eventually growing to learn what it means to be the leader of your own kingdom. Regardless of the obstacles that Asta still has yet to overcome and fight against, his strengths and characteristics provide the audience a lot of life lessons and model behavior that will be able to inspire many young viewers, as well as young adults who feel the same way as Asta in many respects.

Asta as a character never failed to bring many possible reactions to the unfairness of the world, and especially his circumstances at the moment. However, his positive attitude and his inability to give up when the moment counts is an admirable trait that many fans can relate, look up to, and be inspired by at the same time. Where Asta will end up in the near future is really anybody's guess, with the Manga and anime still ongoing. One thing for fans to take with them however, is the concept of fortitude, and perseverance in the face of adversity, and Black Clover manages to do so with Asta.
