Ever since the Black Adam mid-credits scene leaked online, Henry Cavill's return as Superman in the DC Extended Universe is all that DC fans have been able to talk about. Cavill teased “what’s to come” for his character in a social media video only after the film had been released in theaters internationally. Dwayne Johnson has now shared the video and officially welcomed his co-star's return as the Man of Steel.

In the past, Johnson has been quite vocal about his thoughts and opinions as far as Cavill's return as Superman is concerned. In his Black Adam interviews, Johnson has referred to Cavill as the “Superman of our generation,” and has publicly supported his return. After Black Adam mid-credits scene leaked online, he admitted to having been a part of bringing Cavill back and waited until after the Man of Steel actor confirmed his return to acknowledge it on social media.

Taking to Twitter, Johnson posted Cavill's video confirming his return as Superman and wrote, “We fought for years to bring you back. They always said no. But to Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and myself “no” was not an option.” Dany co-created Seven Bucks Productions along with Johnson, whereas Hiram has served as president of the company since 2017. In Johnson's words, the three of them could not build out the DCEU any further “without the world’s greatest superhero.” He took the opportunity to welcome him home. “I’ll see you down the road,” his tweet ends, teasing a future showdown between Black Adam and Superman.

Cavill's performance as Superman has been appreciated by both fans and critics several times. He appeared as the caped hero in 2013’s Man of Steel, 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, 2017’s Justice League, and 2021’s Zack Snyder's Justice League. His latest outing as the hero was in a cameo form in the Black Adam mid-credits scene, and following the film’s release, it has been revealed that Warner Bros. is now considering a Man of Steel 2 film with Cavill in the lead. This is a big win for Cavill fans who have been demanding that he be brought back for the past five years.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder was a part of the original vision for the DCEU. In this vision, Cavill was Superman, Ben Affleck was Batman, Gal Gadot was Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa was Aquaman, and Ezra Miller was The Flash. While most of the other actors continued to make standalone projects, Cavill and Affleck had been sitting on the sidelines since Justice League was released. While Affleck's return as Batman was confirmed in the upcoming The Flash movie and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Cavill's return as Superman was still undecided. The studio had no intention to bring him back, until now.

Black Adam is showing in theaters globally.
