BioWare has been responsile for making some of the most celebrated video games of all time. Whether it was the first two Baldur's Gate games, the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the Dragon Age series, or the Mass Effect trilogy, BioWare made its mark in the video game industry.

However, BioWare stumbled in recent years with some of its latest video game releases. The main examples include the release of Mass Effect: Andromeda in 2017, and the looter shooter Anthem in 2019. The launch and reception to both games were less than favorable, but this hasn't gone unnoticed by the developer.

BioWare recently released a post written by current General Manager Gary McKay, who shared the current state of the studio and what its plans are for the future. One of the goals for BioWare is to work hard at rebuilding the studio's reputation. He said that the developer is "laser-focused" on earning back the trust of its fans and player community, and it plans to do this by delivering the types of games that BioWare is well known for at the highest quality.

McKay states that BioWare's mission is to “Create worlds of adventure, conflict, and companionship that inspire you to become the hero of your story.” He says that going forward, the studio wants its future game releases to be seminal moments in the industry that each generate a similar reaction from gamers that Mass Effect: Legendary Edition did. BioWare feels it has the right people, creative focus, and support from parent company EA to make that happen.

McKay also provides some updates on upcoming video game content that BioWare is currently working on. He voiced his excitement for the launch of the upcoming expansion for Star Wars: The Old Republic, Legacy of the Sith, scheduled to launch on February 15. McKay mentions that the new expansion will feature new content, including more combat style choices and a new storyline that takes players to the underwater depths of Manaan and the ruined Sith fortress on the planet Elom.

He also provides some updates on the next entries in the Dragon Age and Mass Effect series. McKay states that he's seeing some good progress from both teams working on the respective games. He points out that if curious fans look hard enough at the Mass Effect poster released back on N7 Day last year, they might find some "hidden treats," five by his count, that all "point to an amazing future in the Mass Effect universe." For the next Dragon Age game, he mentions that it has a group of talented veteran developers working on it, and for this entry BioWare is focused on devliering "a single-player experience that is built on choices that matter."
