Veteran and casual fans that are familiar with BioShock know that the game isn't like other first-person shooter titles. Utilizing horror, sci-fi, and other immersive elements, players explore the underwater city of Rapture and its dark history while trying to survive as the protagonist Jack. But unlike conventional shooters, there is also an RPG-like progression system that can upgrade Jack's abilities and weapons to better go against the odds.

In-game, Jack has access to firearms such as a pistol, shotgun, grenade launcher, crossbow, grenade launcher, and chemical thrower. Combined with the supernatural power of plasmids, these weapons are Jack's main way of dispatching enemies in the depths of Rapture. As players move through the storyline, they will run into various Power to the People upgrade stations that can improve the effects of each weapon such as increased damage, rate of fire, or even immunity to splash damage. There are 12 stations, which can only be used once, scattered throughout Rapture and each weapon can be upgraded twice.

Updated May 30, 2022 by Jason Van Duine: With BioShock: The Collection readily available on modern systems, more players will be able to dive into the sci-fi masterpiece than ever before. Being a first-person shooter, anyone venturing through Rapture will be using their guns a lot throughout the game. Fortunately, BioShock gives players a chance to upgrade their weapons throughout the game. The Power to the People stations are littered throughout the game; some are obvious, whereas others are more hidden. In any case, being able to find all the BioShock's weapon upgrade stations will allow new and old players to make the most of their playthrough.

Neptune's Bounty

The first upgrade station won't appear right away but is instead a few hours into the game. The first Power to the People station can be found on the Freezer Bottom Floor while exploring Neptune's Bounty. Players need to go through Fontaine Fisheries, one of many seized businesses, and down the stairs. Afterward, the upgrade station should be right in front of Jack.

Arcadia

After Neptune's Bounty, players won't be able to upgrade their weapons until they reach Arcadia. Jack is required to pass through the Tree Farm during the story, which holds the second upgrade station. While heading to the Farmer's market, keep scanning the left and the machine will be over there.

Farmer's Market

Even with it abandoned, there's still plenty to discover at Rapture's Farmer's Market. A weapons upgrade station can also be found here. Players need to search the bottom floor of the Wine Cellar for the third upgrade station. Descend from the top floor to the bottom using the stairs then head straight ahead where the station is partially submerged by water leaking into Rapture.

Fort Frolic

Fort Frolic is the first of several locations where players can find not one, but two upgrade stations for their weapons. For the first, found at Le Marquis D'Epoque, head straight and go down the stairs. Take two rights and then go straight before making a quick left into a room stocked with cigars and the fourth upgrade station.

In Sinclair Spirits, enter the room and there will be a door that needs to be unlocked with a button on the counter located on the opposite side of the room. Go downstairs and the fifth upgrade station will be there. Once the station is used, the nearby splicers disguised as statues will begin attacking and endlessly spawning. It is recommended to use the machine towards the end of the level to avoid most of the hassle.

Hephaestus

The multiple levels of the Hephaestus Core can make it somewhat confusing to navigate, so players would be forgiven for missing the weapons upgrade station hidden within this area. The sixth upgrade station is located at the Hephaestus Core, to the southwest opposite the Gatherer's Garden.

The next upgrade machine can also be found in Hephaestus. Players looking through Kyburz's Office will find the seventh upgrade machine in the back of the room. Like everything else in Kyburz's Office, the station is blocked off by electric wires. Any player who's made it this far in BioShock, however, shouldn't have much of a problem dealing with them.

Olympus Heights

Much like the Hephaestus Core, there are multiple levels at the Mercury Suites, where the next upgrade station is located. The eighth upgrade machine is on the central pillar at the main square behind the elevator, situated on the ground floor of the area.

The ninth upgrade station can only be accessed in Sander Cohen's Apartment; this section is only available if players spared Cohen earlier in the complex story. After getting his attention, Cohen will unlock the door allowing Jack to go upstairs where the machine is to the left.

Apollo Square

Players can choose to focus on the story, though doing so might mean missing out on the next weapons upgrade station. It's located in the Hestia Chambers, which is a completely optional area for players to explore. On the Hestia Chambers Fourth Floor, the tenth upgrade station will be waiting. Players can take the stairs up to the fourth floor, where the machine is located in the second room in Atlas's headquarters.

Point Prometheus

While exploring and finding elements in order to become a Bid Daddy, players will be able to uncover the last two weapons upgrade stations in the game. Found in the main hall, the first shouldn't be too difficult to find. The penultimate upgrade station is next to a dead Big Daddy at the Atrium's southern side.

The final upgrade station can be found later on when trying to acquire the voicebox in order to sound like a Big Daddy. BioShock players will find the final upgrade station near the Gene Bank within Optimized Eugenics. Players should also note that this is the last upgrade station in the entire game, so any last-minute upgrades they may want to make to their weapons should be made here.

Bioshock is available on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
