In 2K Games' BioShock series, the first and second games take place in the underwater city of Rapture along with some convoluted themes the franchise is known for. With BioShock Infinite, however, Irrational Games saw an opportunity to expand the world beyond the murky depths of the sea. Released in 2013, the third title diverges greatly from its predecessors but retains similar gameplay and a compelling story that ties all plot points together by the end credits.

In BioShock Infinite, players are introduced to the aerial city of Columbia and new protagonist, Booker Dewitt. Set during 1912, Booker is sent to Columbia to rescue a girl named Elizabeth, who has been trapped there most of her life. Initially told to "Bring us the girl and wipe away the debt," Booker and Elizabeth become embroidered in a civil war between the upper and lower classes of Columbia that reveals the dark secrets of the city as well as Elizabeth herself.

Main Story Length

The plot of BioShock Infinite revolves around Booker's initial attempts to find Elizabeth, their subsequent journey through Columbia together, and a gut-wrenching finale. Utilizing Columbia's technology and Elizabeth's assistance, Booker will fight through any obstacles or enemies mirroring Andrew Ryan in his path. Unlike the previous two games, Booker's moral choices all lead to the same ending or "the same lighthouse" as Elizabeth would put it. On average, completing the main story will take 11.5 hours, landing directly in between the story lengths of BioShock and BioShock 2. Depending on if players are rushing through or enjoying the story, they can expect to add or subtract around 3 hours from the average time.

Finding All Extras

Just like in previous titles, there are many collectibles scattered around Columbia that Booker can find during the story. These extras include 141 voxophones, which are the equivalent to audio diaries from Rapture. Furthermore, there are 11 telescopes and 26 kinetoscopes that must be looked through or watched respectively to earn a trophy or achievement on consoles. Finally, players can acquire 24 infusion upgrades to improve Booker's various stats. Acquiring all the collectibles will add 4 additional hours to bring the total time to 15.5 hours.

Downloadable Content

Once again, BioShock Infinite offers multiple DLC stories meant to be played after the events of the main story. BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea is split into two parts featuring a return to Rapture with Booker and Elizabeth in an alternate reality. Additionally, Clash in the Clouds is a mode where players face increasingly strong waves of enemies in settings based off different areas of Columbia. Completely finishing the DLC will take about 8 hours and bring time spent in-game to 23.5 hours for most cases.

BioShock Infinite is available on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4.
