Biomutant is now available on the Switch. Its port to Nintendo's hit hybrid console has arrived just ahead of Biomutant's third anniversary.

Biomutant is the debut title from Experiment 101, a THQ Nordic subsidiary founded by multiple Just Cause series veterans. Following six years of development, it was released for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC in May 2021 before making its way to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in September of the following year. Biomutant received mixed reviews at launch, with many critics praising its kung fu-inspired combat system and environment design, but lambasting its somewhat repetitive gameplay.

Content-Complete Version of Biomutant Reaches the Switch at an Attractive Price Point

Biomutant has now been ported to the Switch, having reached the eShop on May 14, 11 days ahead of its three-year release anniversary. The newly introduced port is content-complete, bundling the game with its only piece of DLC, the $2.99 Biomutant Mercenary Class pack. While the original version of the game initially retailed at $59.99 before being permanently discounted to $39.99 in September 2022, its Switch counterpart is being offered at that reduced price point from day one. As is customary for THQ Nordic-published titles, the port has also been treated to a limited physical release, which is available from Amazon and select stateside retailers, among other distributors.

Reviewers Are Praising Biomutant Switch Performance

While it didn't exactly receive universal critical acclaim, Biomutant is still commonly mentioned in conversations about the best post-apocalyptic games ever made. Its world design is definitely one of its strong points, as it juxtaposes the bleak ruins of human civilization with some absolutely stunning scenery. Its graphics underwent a noticeable downgrade to accommodate Nintendo's 7-year-old console, but the good news is that Experiment 101 appears to have achieved some praiseworthy performance. Many reviewers are hence reporting that Biomutant runs at a relatively stable 30 frames per second, with dips below that frame rate being few and far between.

Some Switch players did notice small traversal stutters when moving at a high speed for a prolonged period of time, which may be caused by the game not being able to load all of its world assets quickly enough. However, the issue was reportedly alleviated with the Biomutant day-one patch, which bumped the game's version number up to 1.0.1.

Overall, the long-time-coming Switch version of Biomutant appears to be another competent port to Nintendo's hybrid console. It also makes use of the Switch's gyro controls to allow aiming by tilting a controller, which is the same feature that was already implemented in the game's PlayStation 5 version.
