Biomutant looked to be an incredibly interesting title at first. Combining what appeared to be a unique weirdness with an intriguing world, Biomutant ended up being a disappointment to some gamers. The game allows for players to make their own furry mutant creature and explore a world completely devoid of human life, joining tribes of fellow fuzzy creatures. It was seen as trying to do too much by some and failing to live up to the hype many had placed on Biomutant.

However, even with a lukewarm reception from critics, Biomutant did prove to be a financial success for Swedish developer Experiment 101. The game managed to make back its costs within the first week of release, even with the development process being a long one. Now, Biomutant is gearing up for its next big update, giving players of the open-world action RPG a next-gen experience. The update will be free for all owners of Biomutant who also have access to a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and will bring a few new features for players on September 6,2022.

For the PlayStation 5 version of Biomutant, players will be able to access three different performance modes for the game. First, Quality mode offers 30fps for 4K play, then Quality Unleashed has a 40fps frame rate and can offer up to 4K, and finally, Performance mode locks Biomutant at 60fps with a maximum resolution of 1440p. As well, PS5 owners can get access to DualSense features and Activity Cards when playing the next-gen version of Biomutant.

On Xbox Series consoles, the performance modes are largely the same. However, there are some differences. For example, the maxiumum resolution for the Series S is 1440p no matter whether Biomutant is set to Quality, Quality Unleashed, or Performance. On the more powerful Xbox console, though, 4K play is still available. It was leaked in May that a next gen version of Biomutant was on the way, but none of the features coming with that update had been revealed.

Before the leak, Experiment 101 had already revealed last year that a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S update for Biomutant was on the way, and now fans will soon be able to get their hands on the upgraded performance. Hopefully, this can breathe some new life into a game that has been left to one side by many due to its initial, disappointing impression.

Biomutant is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game will launch on September 6, 2022.
