The expansive open-world RPG Biomutant would be incredibly lonely to explore without some sort of sidekick. Thankfully, players receive one in the form of the Automaton, a miniature mechanical grasshopper. Even better, the robot friend is as customizable as the aquatic Googlide, with the world being filled with opportunities for the player to change its appearance. Altogether, there are ten Automaton appearances.

What makes getting this out of the way particularly good is the fact that, in addition to cosmetic options, it's also a part of completing the Old World Knowledge questline. This mainly consists of finding noticeboards, examining them, then finding the corresponding treasure. Unfortunately, like the Googlide, quest rewards are random. That means hunting for a specific Automaton appearance might not go the way players want. That said, all of the noticeboard locations are listed below to complete in one shot.

All Automaton Appearances in Biomutant

There are noticeboards everywhere in Biomutant, though to complete the quest, players only need to find 15 of them. For those only interested in changing how their robot sidekick looks, there are only 10 Automaton appearances. In other words, those last 5 can wait if the awesome things in Biomutant are more attention-worthy.

BioMutant World Tree root
  • Bricktown: Players can get this out of the way during the main quest that brings them here. After clearing out the Morks, players should head upstairs. To the right is the first noticeboard. A short follow-up quest commences, wherein players should head upstairs once more and turn around to find the start of the trail. Completing this grants the first Automaton skin.
  • Chugyard: For reference, this location is to the West of Bricktown. To get there, players should walk west of the previous noticeboard, following the path to Murkadorpus Outpost. There should be a train track on the left, which leads to the Chugyard. To finish the follow-up quest and receive the second skin, follow the rail to the end, though watch out for any enemies nearby.
  • Suburbia: This location is northwest of Urfidurf Outpost, though the path to it is filled with enemies. Towards the end is a challenging Tincan enemy that might necessitate some ultimate weapons. Either way, defeating it grants the third Automaton skin.
  • Subnautica Station: This area of the map is northeast of Bricktown, with the noticeboard being on the southeast side. Head inside the tunnel-like structure and pick up the tracks from the pile of Goop to get the fourth Automaton skin.
  • Surf Hurdle: This noticeboard is located east of the Urfidurf Outpost, heading towards Rokoblok Outpost. Take the trail down into Guyway 5H and, after some resistance, the fifth Automaton skin is up for grabs.

  • Sparkplant: Pack some cold-weather gear for this one, as its location is west of the Tree of Life. Also, be sure to have some powerful guns crafted for the bandits and elemental beasts in the area. The noticeboard is located towards the south end, and the marker to the north leads to the sixth Automaton skin.
  • Gnoat Farm: This location is also where players first meet Noko, as the noticeboard is next to her home. Interacting with it leads to a large shaft on the east side, and under the muck of the Gnoat Pen is the seventh Automaton skin.
  • Chugdepot: This one is southwest of the Lotus Fortress and some enemies might be waiting for a confrontation. Either way, the noticeboard is in the middle of this area, and interacting with it leads southwest to a manhole cover. Careful though, as it'll have some enemy guardians around it, and once all is said and done, the eighth Automaton skin is down the hole and to the end.
  • Blimpstation: Players might want to trade that Radioactivity Suit for a Heat Protection one instead, as this next one is in the scorching hot Kluppy Dunes. The noticeboard is outside of the Blimpstation, which is located on the southern edge of the area. The marker will point west, which leads to a radioactive bunker. After a struggle with some elemental enemies, players will receive the ninth Automaton skin.
  • Sludge Deodorizum: It's probably unbearable, but stick around the Kluppy Dunes for this next one. West of the Blimpstation is this noticeboard and, as expected by now, there are plenty of goop monsters and a Tincan on the trail. All that aside, following the markers to the end grants the tenth Automaton skin.

  • Aerodrome: Okay questline hunters, be prepared for a real challenge, as this one is a little tough to get to. First, the Lobo questline at Blimpstation must be completed. This enables players to glide over the goop that cuts off the northern islands of Kluppy Dunes. After gliding over, the noticeboard will be on the southeastern side of the island. Interacting with it leads to the sewers, where players will need to solve a Rotation puzzle to bring down the water levels. The wind tunnel provides an easy ride to the eleventh Automaton prize. Not too hard, right?
  • Fume Foundry: Now would be a good time to trade back the Radioactivity Suit, as this next one is in the radioactive area southeast of the Pichu Fortress. The noticeboard is on the eastern side of the factory, and interacting with it leads to an underground tunnel. Don't worry, as a Tincan makes sure to make an appearance, though after this is the twelfth Automaton prize.
  • Surfsurge Factory: The noticeboard for this one is in Whiz's workshop north of Molyholy Outpost, though players also pass by it during the main questline. After interacting with it, follow the markers to the frozen underground, though keep a lookout for a gigantic Mump. Shortly after is the thirteenth Automaton prize.
  • Sludgegush Field: This one is northwest of Netra Fortress, though keep those lungs protected with an Oxygen Suit. After interacting with the board, the marker leads deeper into the sludge fields, and of course, more enemies. After taking care of them, make sure to break the wall in this room before continuing further. At the end of the path is the fourteenth Automaton prize.
  • Manufactorium: This final noticeboard is southwest of Rokoblok Outpost. Trade back for the Radioactivity Suit once more, as well as bringing a 7-star weapon, as there are plenty of radioactive beasts lying in wait. Follow the marker northeast into an underground area and prepare to face off against another Tincan. As a reward, players receive the final Automaton prize box.
