The iconic horror franchise IT is finally getting another follow-up, but this time it will take place in the past. Now, rumours claim Bill Skarsgård will reprise his role as Pennywise in the HBO Max prequel series.

IT is a movie series based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. The film was remade for the present day in 2017, followed by a sequel released in 2019 to close the storyline. The It prequel series for HBO Max will take place in the town of Derry and potentially show where the horror originated.

The Illuminderi shared new details about the show, including cast descriptions. The production team is also searching for a group of young kids who will no doubt take the place of the "Losers Club." Fear HQ claims Bill Skarsgård will reprise his role as Pennywise, which means fans will experience the creepy performance the actor is known for all over again. The IT prequel series will reportedly be set in the '60s and is currently casting the lead role, which will be an army pilot who is "trying to bring people together in an unlikely time."

Pennywise In IT

The IT prequel series will be titled Welcome To Derry, which in itself sounds like a way for fans to learn more about the town rather than just the villain. For those who remember, Pennywise's power was at its strongest while people remained in town. However, the further they got from Derry, the less of an influence the monster had on them.

This all sounds promising and considering that the show will be a prequel, it's unlikely that Pennywise will be stopped or killed. Maybe the events of this series somehow weakened Pennywise to the point where he wasn't able to be at his strongest. It feels like horror projects are at their best, especially now that Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are set to merge.

Welcome to Derry is in development at HBO Max.
