There are several ways to end up in a jail cell in Baldur's Gate 3. Players can become outlaws and thieves, play the game as a murderous character, or as an anti-hero. However, even characters trying to be good can end up in a prison cell.

For example, if the party stumbles upon a young character called Mol and her hideout, she will give the party a count of ten to leave. If Mol is ignored, she'll take it as a threat and report the protagonist for threatening a child. It's possible to avoid jail if the player makes a lucky roll of the dice resulting in a 20, but the odds are against it. The first jail in Baldur's Gate 3 that the party can get thrown into is in the Hollow. This guide will show players how to escape the cell at The Hollow and retrieve their belongings.

If a report against the protagonist has been given to the authorities, the guards will try and arrest them. Players will have the opportunity to use Wizard, Performance,Deception, or Persuasion to avoid arrest. This can depend on the Charisma stats, but it is possible to get lucky and persuade/deceive them into letting the party go and avoiding jail altogether.

  • Select the Wizard, Performance, Deception, or Persuasion option to initiate a dice roll.
  • The dice roll screen will appear.
  • Add bonuses if available, and roll a 20 or above.
  • If the dice roll fails, it's better to surrender instead of fight.
  • Players determined to win can reload their save.

Without the skills of a thief, the simplest method to break out of the cell in The Hollow is to punch through the broken door.

  • The broken door can be found near the bedroll, but be wary of the explosive mushroom in the cell.
  • Select Unarmed combat, highlight the door, and punch it until it breaks.
  • Walk off the ledge onto the path behind the broken door and watch out for the exploding Malnourished Torchstalks.
  • Use the jump mechanic to get across the gaps.
  • Climb the knotted roots, and there's a Stone Door on the left. Don't walk through the stone door yet - it leads to Goblin's hideout.
