Shadowheart is one of the most favorite companions of players in Baldur's Gate 3. At first glance, she seems to be a young and beautiful girl, but her face hides a hard fate due to the curse of Shar and separation from her parents. This makes many Baldur’s Gate players like her and feel a huge responsibility for their decisions about her life. Although she has almost no horrible endings, she also has no perfect ones because they are all the result of difficult decisions, losses, and compromises.

The main turning point in Shadowheart's story comes when she has to choose whether to become a Dark Justiciar or betray Shar. Later on, she will have to decide the fate of her parents, and even this choice is more challenging than it may seem.

Shadowheart Betrays Shar

Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3

It all starts with Shar telling Shadowheart to kill Nightsong. If she proves her loyalty, she will become the Dark Justiciar. When the party gets to where Nightsong is being held, they will meet Balthazar, who will want to kidnap the prisoner Nightsong. Do not allow him to do this, as Shadowheart will react negatively to this decision and leave the party forever.

After meeting with Nightsong, she will say that the Dark Justiciar's life will be full of suffering. When the player convinces Shadowheart to save the prisoner's life, she will throw away her spear but still have doubts about betraying her goddess. Nevertheless, it turns out that Nightsong is the daughter of the goddess Selune, so she will give Shadowheart some new abilities. She will also offer to help defeat Ketheric Thorm. After that, players will learn that Shadowheart's parents are being held in the House of Grief.

Players will meet Viconia DeVir there, who will offer to surrender Shadowheart to her. Obviously, in this case, she will leave the party, and her story will end, but the Devotees of Shar will become allies. If the players refuse Viconia, they will have to fight her, after which they will finally be able to meet Shadowheart's parents. However, she will forever remain with the curse of Shar if she does not kill them. But the family will finally reunite, and if the players romance Shadowheart, she will offer to live together peacefully.

If she kills her parents, they will become Moonmotes, and Shadowheart will be free of the curse. She will be glad to live with the protagonist but will miss her parents.

Shadowheart Submits to Shar

Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3

If Shadowheart kills Nightsong, she will prove her loyalty to Shar and become Dark Justiciar. She will receive the legendary spear and powerful new abilities from the goddess. Serving Shar, she will become more callous, and if she kills her parents, she will give up romantic relationships.

As in the ending described above, the party will need to get to the House of Grief and defeat Viconia DeVir. After that, Shar will tell Shadowheart to kill her parents. As a result, she will be the right hand of the goddess and become even stronger. Shar will also erase her memories of her parents so that she does not regret what she has done. If Shadowheart's parents survive, the family will be reunited, and even Shar will leave them alone.

Shadowheart Becomes The Absolute

Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3

This ending of Shadowheart's arc will be available if Karlach is also in the party, and she becomes a Mind Flayer. If Shadowheart kills Karlach at the decisive moment, she will become Absolute. Obviously, this ending is regarded as a bad one.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available now on PC and PS5, with an Xbox Series X version also in development.
