Baldur's Gate 3's second Act is a journey through the dark and deadly Shadow-Cursed Lands, and along the way, players will uncover both its history and its secrets. The Last Light Inn is a lone bastion against the shadow curse and offers a place of safety to both the party and a few familiar faces from Act 1 of Baldur's Gate 3.

One group that players may not be so glad to see again is Mol's gang of Tiefling urchins, who are quite likely to have scammed or robbed the party in their first encounter. However, the vendor among the group, Mattis, has a mysterious key for sale that he'll offer to players for 1,000 gold.

Updated October 19th, 2023: Players may find themselves curious about purchasing a rather expensive key from Mattis when they make it to Baldur's Gate's second act. Those that end up in possession of the Tower-Shaped Key in BG3 might be in for a bit of buyer's remorse if they can't find the door it goes to. It's also important to note that players can end up picking the lock that the key goes to, provided they pass a tough slight-of-hand check. To better help players locate the door that uses the Tower-Shaped Key in Baldur's Gate 3, the following guide has been updated with a small video.

Where To Use The Tower-Shaped Key

Baldur's Gate 3 Mason's Guild Location

While buying the Tower-shaped Key may seem like just another scam from the Tiefling tricksters, it can be used to reach a stash of valuable loot as well as to complete the Investigate the Selunite Resistance quest. As players might expect, the design of the Tower-shaped Key is the biggest clue to the location of its matching lock. However, it isn't used in the forbidding Moonrise Towers but instead in the Reithwin Masons' Guild, which has a similar stone tower among its emblems.

Baldur's Gate 3: How to Break Wyll's Pact with Mizora

Wyll's warlock pact in Baldur's Gate 3 is unfair, but it's not unbreakable. Here is how players can end it.

The Masons' Guild can be found to the east of the statue of Ketheric Thorm in the center of Reithwin and to the north of the Tollhouse. While the main floor of the Guild is deserted, players can either use the trapdoor concealed at the back of the workshop or the elevator that is accessible from the second floor to descend into the building's basement. While exploring the basement, players may spot a Keyholed Herald on the wall, which they can unlock with the Tower-shaped Key to reveal a hidden passage. It's worth noting that a very good Sleight of Hands check can lockpick the Herald, potentially saving players 1,000 gold.

Shadows and Secrets

Baldur's Gate 3 Mason's Guild secret room

The hidden passage that's revealed by the Tower-shaped Key is heavy on traps, and players should avoid the very tempting chest placed halfway along. However, after passing through these obstacles players will emerge into a large room that was the secret headquarters of the Selunite resistance against Ketheric Thorm after his conversion to Shar. The room is now occupied by a group of Shadows, but players who've spent any time in the Shadow-Cursed Lands should already know how to deal with these spectral undead.

If players fully explore the room beneath the Masons' Guild, they'll discover several interesting texts that reveal how the Mason family and friends set themselves against Ketheric Thorm and his Dark Justiciars. In particular, they'll reveal that it was the Masons who made a deal with the powers of Avernus to strike back at the Sharran worshipers. This led directly to the battle in the Grymforge, which players can see the aftermath of when exploring the Underdark.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available for PC. A PS5 version is set to release on September 6th, and an Xbox Series X/S version is currently in development.
