Treasure can take the form of weapons, amulets, or other types of valuable or rare gear that the character can equip. In some cases, these treasures are granted as part of a quest, and some can even buff certain abilities. Acquiring valuable items like these is not always a question of uncovering hidden locations or using certain spells; some are locked behind a lucky roll of the dice.

5 The Githyanki Egg

Resting Comfortably In A Pool Of Acid

Baldur's Gate 3 Gith Egg
  • Can be given to Lady Esther for some gold.

The Githyanki Egg is not hard to find, but it's tough to get to, as it is hidden in the depths of the Githyanki Creche. What makes acquiring this unusual treasure even more dangerous is that it risks Lae'zel's ire should the protagonist decide to steal it, but what they plan to do with it may somewhat quell her rage.

The less dangerous way to reach the egg is to convince the Custodian of the Hatchery, Varsh Ko’kuu, to simply hand it over. This option also allows the party to freely walk out of the Creche with the egg, but the only way to get it is to pass some high Persuasion and Intimidation checks. It's also possible to use Stealth and Invisibility to steal it. The alternative is to wait until the story moves to either siding with the Githyanki or resisting them. Resisting means killing everyone in the creche, including the Guardian, and a pair of poison-resistant boots can be looted from his corpse.

4 The Orphic Hammer

Locked Behind Tough Combat Or High Persuasion And Intimidation Checks

Baldur's Gate 3 Orphic Hammer
  • Allows the wielder to use the Unshackling Strike class action.

Stealing from regular folk is hard enough, but sneaking into the abode of a demon and ripping him off is on another level. There are a few ways to get to this hammer, and none of them are easy. The protagonist has to get past some high dice rolls to get past both Hope and the Archivist. It's also possible to pickpocket the Archivist for a pass to the boudoir, where Raphael keeps his safe.

Players who want to challenge Raphael and end his contract must first explore his House of Hope.

Haarlep is the demon that players have to deal with to access Raphael's safe, inside of which lies the means of acquiring the Orphic Hammer. There are several options available here, which include literally making a deal with Haarlep or attacking the demon and looting the Safe Key from the body.

3 The Sentient Amulet

Burn To Death While Cursed With Laughter

Sentient Amulet Baldur's Gate 3
  • Allows the wearer to cast Shatter and restore Ki Points.

This rare amulet also unlocks a side quest, and it's in a locked chest located on an island in the middle of a river of boiling lava that's guarded by a fire elemental. All that's not even the hard part of obtaining this cursed treasure.

Using fire-resistant gear or potions helps to reach this locked chest, along with handy spells like Misty Step or Fly. If players avoid the elemental, unlock the chest, and examine the locket, they will start a dialogue that initiates the Help the Cursed Monk quest. The amulet is cursed, so even when the player has it, they have to be cautious should they decide to use it. It needs to be taken to a tomb in Wyrm's Crossing in Act 3, where the protagonist has to make a tough choice about whether to help the Laughing Monk or not.

2 Necromancy Of Thay

Down To The Cellar And Through A Magic Mirror

Baldur's Gate 3 finding the Necromancy of Thay
  • Successfully reading the book rewards the reader with the Speak with Dead spell and +1 to Wisdom saving throws.

Locating this book starts with finding some random notes in the ruined house of the Apothecary in the Blighted Village. There's no Perception check, just some random books and notes that the player takes the initiative to read.

Baldur's Gate 3 players may have missed out on these easter eggs!

Once the book is in the character's inventory, they can only read it once, and the adventure begins. The piece of amethyst required to unlock the second part of the book is sitting on the ground in the Whispering Depths among a nest of giant spiders. Carrying the book all the way into Act 3 and then to the well-guarded vault of Sorcerer's Sundries, players can find another book called the Tharchiate Codex that unlocks the rest of the Necromancy of Thay. Reading it grants the power to summon demonic fiends, a worthwhile power but a hard one to obtain.

1 Lathlander's Blood

A Mace That Requires A Puzzle To Be Solved Or A Sacrifice To Be Made

blood of lathander trap bg3
  • Allows the wielder to cast Sunbeam.

There are two ways to obtain this shiny mace that holds a drop of the god Lathander's blood. There's the difficult way and the even more difficult way, with one being much more time-consuming but less dangerous, and players can decide if that's the harder way or not.

It's possible to obtain an item called the Dawnmaster's Crest that unlocks the elaborate trap and allows the treasure to be removed safely. However, this requires some searching and sharp eyes in the upper levels of the temple, and some adventurers have a busy schedule already. Players who want the more dangerous but faster method can simply yank the mace from its podium and trigger the trap. The contraption outside will then set in motion to turn on itself and destroy the temple as well as the Githyanki Creche below. The game shifts into turn-based mode here, and players have four turns to get away before they are crushed.
