Better Call Saul may be coming to an end this summer, but that does not necessarily mean we are done with the characters who have played a role in how good the show has turned out. Rhea Seehorn confirmed that we could be seeing more of Kim Wexler in the future if showrunners Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould decide as such.

As a prequel, Better Call Saul unsurprisingly re-introduced fans to several characters from Breaking Bad. However, perhaps the most popular character turned out to be newcomer Kim Wexler, partly due to the mystery surrounding the character's absence by the time the events of Breaking Bad unfold.

In an interview with Deadline back on May 23, Seehorn admitted that both Gilligan and Gould feel that more of Kim's story can be told outside what Better Call Saul has already shown. However, though it sounds like they are interested in expanding her story beyond Better Call Saul, the two are likely to take a break when the show ends later this summer. "You know, Peter and Vince have said publicly that though they feel that there are stories, mine included, that are worthwhile to continue to tell, they do want to step away from this franchise for a beat," Seehorn said. "So that’s all I can say about that. You’d have to ask them for specifics beyond that. Nobody is being coy about anything, but I’m also very grateful that they and fans feel like there is an ellipse to who Kim is and who Kim was."

Both Gilligan and Gould deserve a break after the excellent television they've given their viewers since 2008. During that time, their efforts led to the creation of two of the greatest television shows of all time. That's impressive, especially since they only had a year and a half between when Breaking Bad ended and when Better Call Saul began. They did such a good job that they even went out of their way to do a spinoff film of Breaking Bad because they were surprised at how well Better Call Saul turned out.

Better yet, a break from it all could give them time to think about what else they could do with Kim's story. When Better Call Saul first started, viewers assumed that Kim would be a lost lover on Jimmy McGill's end since she's nowhere to be found in Breaking Bad and because of how corrupted he became when he morphed into Saul Goodman. As the show has come closer and closer to its end, viewers have come to realize that not only did Jimmy's fall from grace not inspire her to leave him (as of now), but she may be even more corrupt than he ever was as Saul. A show depicting Kim's early love for cons and/or breaking the law could open up so many possibilities.

No matter how much time they need to rest or where they go in the Breaking Bad universe, Gilligan and Gould have proven that no matter where they go from here, they are trustworthy with the shows they make quality-wise. Whether they decide to expand on Kim's backstory, pick up from where Breaking Bad left off, or do a side story about the Squat Cobbler industry, Gilligan and Gould will bring their A-game.

Better Call Saul will resume on AMC on July 11, 2022.
