Senior game designer at Bethesda, Ferret Baudoin died on October 15th, 2022. As of late, he was working on the newest IP, Starfield, a science fiction RPG that has been in development for a while; he was involved with the project as the senior designer. Prior to that, Baudoin worked as the lead quest designer for Fallout 76 and its subsequent update, Wastelanders. His lengthy career spans a little over two decades and his time at Bethesda makes up the bulk of that work.Ferret Baudoin started his career in video games as a QA tester at Activision in 1997, eventually making his way around to different companies. He worked as a lead designer on Neverwinter Nights 2 and as a senior designer for Dragon Age 2 while at BioWare. Other notable credits of his include work on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II and quest design for Fallout 4. The final project he was working on was the upcoming Starfield for Bethesda.His death was announced on Facebook some days after it took place. The Facebook post emphasized his role as a family man and great friend to those around him. In addition to the reactions of those from the gaming community, members of the industry gave their own thoughts as well. One such eulogy came from Something Wicked Games CEO Jeff Gardiner, who posted his feelings on Twitter.
The death of Ferret Baudoin is tragic, and his sudden passing deprives the gaming industry of a very talented individual. He left behind a long and successful career and has been part of some very notable titles.
Without a doubt, Baudoin has left his mark on the gaming industry and will be remembered for all the hard work he’s done. His absence from Starfield will be felt as it continues development, and any other RPGs that Bethesda has in the works will no doubt be impacted. His family can take solace in the fact that Baudoin was respected by his peers and the community he helped foster. The works he left behind will continue to be parts of his legacy that will continue to entertain for years to come.
