With E3 just around the corner, many are excited at the very real possibility that Bethesdacould unveil Starfield, a secretive space RPG that has been under wraps since a trademark for the title was registered way back in 2013. The last thing anyone expects would be a new Fallout release, which is why the studio's latest tweet that appears to tease exactly that is very surprising indeed.

This teasing of fans through cryptic tweets is something which Bethesda seems to be rather fond of recently, given that just a few weeks go a RAGE 2 reveal was teased via a series of mysterious images. Like the RAGE tweets, this latest Fallout tease is likely intended to ensure that Bethesda's name is in everyone's mouths in the lead-up to E3.

However, it's important to note that unlike the RAGE 2 tweets, this apparent hint at something Fallout-related comes from Bethesda Game Studios, the team responsible for the beloved Fallout and Elder Scrolls series, as opposed to Bethesda Softworks, which publishes multiple other IPs.

The tweet is comprised of just a single GIF, which displays the words "PLEASE STAND BY", stylized in the instantly-recognizable Fallout branding. The tweet suggests that a new release of some sort is incoming for the Fallout franchise, with a reveal in the immediate future or in a couple of weeks during the company's E3 showcase.

The exact nature of what this release will be is, of course, currently unknown. Given the famed secrecy of Bethesda Game Studios - Todd Howard refuses to even spill Elder Scrolls news to his family - pretty much anything could be on the cards. The release being teased could be as small as a Fallout remaster, a mobile game, or one as big as Fallout 5.

Those hoping the release will be on the big side shouldn't get their hopes up just yet, however. The many leaks about Starfield make its big unveiling quite likely at E3 this year, which all but rules out a second new title from Bethesda Game Studios such as a new Fallout.

Instead, considering Bethesda's love for remastering its older titles on new hardware, a Fallout remaster for current-gen consoles is a good bet for what this tease may turn out to be. More specifically, this October will mark the 10th anniversary of Fallout 3's release, making the title (which many consider the best of the series) a prime candidate if a remaster is indeed on the cards.

Whatever Bethesda is planning for Fallout, it's likely that more details will surface over the coming days before E3.
