Cassette Beasts, a Pokemon-like game that released day one on Xbox Game Pass, is getting a DLC expansion on October 4. Cassette Beasts launched earlier this year to rave reviews and is in fact one of the highest-rated new game releases of the 2023 so far. While Cassette Beasts is also available on PC and Nintendo Switch, Xbox gamers are able to play the game without paying anything beyond their usual Game Pass subscription fee.

Cassette Beasts is very similar to Nintendo's Pokemon franchise, but with some major differences that have helped it earn higher ratings than the recent main series Pokemon games. Cassette Beasts offers a bit of a stiffer challenge than Pokemon, it features many quality-of-life features compared to the Pokemon series, and it has a unique fusion mechanic that lets players combine nearly any two beasts in the game. On top of all that, Cassette Beasts also has a co-op mode.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers that have already completed Cassette Beasts may be anxious for some fresh content, even with the game's extensive endgame. Luckily, Cassette Beasts is getting a major expansion on October 4. Retailing for $6.99, the Pier of the Unknown DLC for Cassette Beasts features new story content, a new area called Brightside Pier to explore, 12 new monsters to collect, five new costumes, and 4-10 hours of additional gameplay. Better yet, the DLC seems like it will be a perfect fit for the October spooky season, as it definitely has a Halloween vibe to it.

The release of this DLC will increase the total number of Cassette Beasts monsters to 141, which in turn means that the game will have 19,881 fusions available for players to discover. The sheer number of fusions in Cassette Beasts has always been staggering, but the addition of the 12 new creatures in the DLC should make it all even more wild. Cassette Beasts fans will definitely want to experiment with some of the new monsters that spawn at Brightside Pier and see what fusions they can come up with.

The Pier of the Unknown DLC for Cassette Beasts should go a long way in bringing Xbox Game Pass fans back to the monster-catching game, but there's even more to look forward to in the future. It was previously announced that Cassette Beasts's popular co-op mode is getting expanded to include up to eight players online for raid battles. There's no update yet on when fans can expect that particular feature, but Pier of the Unknown should keep them busy in the meantime.
