With Grand Theft Auto V being given as a free game on the Epic Games Store, more players are able to experience the story and characters found in the game. Games by Rockstar are known for their unique characters, and here are 5 of the best and 5 of the worst characters in the Grand Theft Auto HD Universe.

10 Worst: Avon Hertz

Avon Hertz is seen in Grand Theft Auto Online during the Doomsday Heist. Avon has developed an AI named Clifford and has the player try to save San Andreas from an attack. Towards the middle of the heist, it is revealed Avon is planning the attack, using an old nuclear base.

The rest of the heist has the player and their crew defeat Avon and Clifford. The final mission features a jetpack chase, where Avon is shot down and killed. Also interesting to note, Avon is based on Elon Musk, having a similar appearance and mannerisms.

9 Best: Roman Bellic

Roman Bellic in the cousin of Grand Theft Auto IV protagonist Niko Bellic and the reason Niko comes to Liberty City. As it is revealed during the beginning missions, Roman lied and made it seem like he was richer than he was. As the story goes on, Roman is abused by multiple characters across the game and DLCs, with Roman getting shot in the stomach and kidnapped.

Roman's life isn't too bad, depending on what ending the player chooses. Roman can get married and reveal he has a child on the way. Roman is also supportive of the player throughout the game, so next time he calls to go bowling, you should accept his invitation.

8 Worst: Rocco Pelosi

Rocco Pelosi is first seen in the Grand Theft Auto IV DLC, The Ballad of Gay Tony. During the DLC, Rocco is an arrogant character who throws racist remarks towards the protagonist, Luis Lopez. At the end of the DLC, Rocco gets what is coming to his when Luis decides to fight back, causing Rocco to flee Liberty City.

Rocco is shown again in Grand Theft Auto V, where he is a talent agent in Los Santos. To get his clients to work for a movie, Rocco is killed, bringing his role in the series to an end.

7 Best: Patrick McReary

Patrick McReary is a major character and friend of Niko Bellic in Grand Theft Auto IV. Patrick is known as Packie and first meets Niko when working for a drug dealer named Elizabeta. Packie and Niko work together, becoming friends who are able to hang out outside of missions.

Packie also appears in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online as members of the player's heist team. An interesting Easter egg is that in Grand Theft Auto IV, Packie has a box inside of his head.

6 Worst: Civil Border Patrol

While they are two characters, Joe and Josef are so similar they can be counted as one person. Both characters are members of the Civil Border Patrol, a group in Grand Theft Auto V who want to keep illegal immigrants out of the United States. The only thing is, they keep arresting legal citizens.

Josef is Russian himself and barely speaks any English. After Trevor Phillips realized the group is arresting legal citizens, he goes to stop them, killing both members of the group.

5 Best: Tony Prince

Tony Prince is the owner of two clubs in Liberty City, Maisonette 9 and Hercules. Tony is featured in small roles during Grand Theft Auto IV and The Lost and Damned, but has a bigger role in The Ballad of Gay Tony. Tony Prince in the last DLC is close to the protagonist, Luis Lopez.

Tony Prince is featured again in Grand Theft Auto Online, where he helped the online protagonist operate a nightclub in Los Santos. Tony Prince is an interesting character in the series, and players can go to his nightclubs to take part in dancing mini games.

4 Worst: Fabien LaRouche

Fabien LaRouche is a yoga instructor who is having an affair with Grand Theft Auto V protagonist Michael De Santa's wife. After Michael is drugged by his son, his family moves in with Fabien. Towards the end of the game, Michael confronts Fabien and beats him up, bringing his family back home.

If the player checks LifeInvader, they can see that Michael's children do not like Fabien, saying he is a pervert and is too obsessed with yoga and fitness. After the game, it becomes obvious the family is happy to be away from the yoga instructor.

3 Best: Lamar Davis

Lamar Davis is the best friend of Grand Theft Auto V protagonist Franklin Clinton and acts as the comic relief of the game. Lamar helps each of the protagonist in missions, being a lot of help throughout the game. While being helpful, Lamar is also needed to be saved during certain missions. He is also available to hang out with outside of missions.

Lamar is also the reason the online protagonist comes to Los Santos in Grand Theft Auto Online. The player is invited to a race and decides to stay in the city. Depending on the gender the online player is also changes how Lamar greets them. If the online protagonist is a woman, Lamar brings a rose, only to be rejected.

2 Worst: Brian Jeremy

Brian Jeremy is featured in The Lost and Damned DLC as a member of The Lost. During the early part of the game, Brian is annoying and is constantly sucking up to the leader of the gang, Billy Grey. After Billy Grey is arrested, Brian betrays The Lost and causes a civil war.

The Lost and Damned protagonist Johnny Klebitz hunts down Brian and can decide to kill him or spare him. If the player spares Brian, Brian can be found as a random encounter mission, where he ambushes the player. Brian is killed in the game no matter which option the player chooses.

1 Best: Bernie Crane

Bernie Crane, originally known as Florian Crane, was a member of the 15 man squad that was ambushed during the Yugoslavian War. Niko believes it is Bernie who betrayed the squad, so Niko hunts down Bernie. When they are reunited, Niko realizes it was not Bernie.

Niko starts to help Bernie with missions around Liberty City, and the two become friends again. Bernie is revealed to be dating the deputy mayor of Liberty City, which if it became public knowledge would cause a scandal. Bernie is a fun character in Grand Theft Auto IV, and it is a shame Bernie was not a character the player could hang out with outside of missions.
