The MechWarrior series gives players larger-than-life robots to live out their mecha dreams, and the BattleTech game naturally introduces an extensive range of items that allow for different play styles. The latest in the series, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, is quite a demanding shooter by modern standards.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries permits players to manage everything, from the power of weapons to the way the mech's torso and legs move. Depending on how much power they use, some weapons are worth the player's time, while others aren't. These are the best weapons that can make battles easier.

5 Short Range Missiles

In MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, players need to manage the heat of their weapons. Short-Range Missiles make that aspect easier because they don't use that much power and have a rather short cool downtime. Close-quarters battles in MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries are reasonably common, so this weapon does provide flexibility for these sorts of situations and can help to take down even the heavier mechs in the game.

This weapon fires four missiles at once, hitting the entire mech and causing damage all over rather than in one spot. If players can hit targets with a barrage of these missiles, enemies will be wiped out in no time. These missiles are best suited for the running-and-gunning mechs. If players can hit once and do massive damage while moving, they become a threat.

4 Ultra Cannon

The Ultra Cannon highlights some of the great qualities of combat in MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. As players can switch between first-person and third-person, this cannon emphasizes the strengths of both elements. If someone opts for the first-person view, players can be precise with their shots and hit the enemy's legs or torsos. Just like many great first-person shooters out there, this way of fighting helps players get in control.

On the other hand, if players are in third-person mode, they can keep the enemy pinned down since they can see more and the Ultra Cannon shoots five cannons at once. Depending on the view players use, this cannon will behave differently. Players can use it to get a more accurate shot, or it can hold enemies back. Either way, the Ultra Cannon is a weapon they should have.

3 Particle Projection Cannon

This cannon can cause a lot of damage in a short amount of time, but it's also a double-edged sword and can make MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries even harder if players don't use it right. However, if they master all the qualities of this cannon, fights can finish faster than they start.

The Particle Projection Cannon is an energy weapon, meaning there's no ammo to use, so players don't have to worry about managing that aspect. But, since it's an energy weapon, it can cause the player's mech to get overheated, which players need to avoid in order to win the fight. Even if players figure out the meta and difficulty of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, this weapon can throw them a curveball. But if players use this weapon properly, they can down even the fiercest mechs. On top of that, the Particle Projection Cannon has an amazing range, so players can use distance at shield.

2 Guass

The Guass is an interesting weapon. While it's especially great at long-range, it holds up its own when fighting in any situation. It's heavy in the power usage department, but the damage pays off. If players use this with any laser or missile system and fire the shots at the same time, the mech won't overheat, but shots will be delayed; consequently, the best way to use the Gauss is in conjunction with other weapons.

The Gauss can stop the medium to heavy mechs in their paths, and it can outright destroy light mechs. While the Gauss is a heavy weapon, it can make combat movement feel limited, but because of that mass and weight, the damage output is worth it. The great thing about the Gauss it complements many weapons. For example, if players use the missile systems, the Gauss can do a follow-up attack which can down most enemies.

1 NARC Missile Beacon

The NARC Missile Beacon acts as not just a weapon, but also something to help other players in co-op. Paired with another missile system either long-range or short-range, it benefits both and amplifies the positives of both. Once the beacon is launched, players can tag enemies more quickly, and have more accuracy. So for short-range missiles, this is great because they can attack at a longer distance and faster, without needing long-range missiles.

However, in co-op mode, the NARC Missile Beacon shines more. If players tag an enemy, all friendly missile systems will auto-lock on the painted target. This is great because it highlights that teamwork is important, and gives a more explosive cinematic feel.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is available now on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC.
