Unlike traditional roguelikes, however, Crown Trick's runs are much shorter, allowing for a more casual pick-up-and-play experience that, when combined with the game's excellent visual style, makes Crown Trick one of the most accessible turn-based roguelikes on Steam, and a great entry point to more traditional roguelikes.

Shotgun King has a brilliantly minimalist pixel-art aesthetic, and due to its Chess theme, the game is tremendously easy to read at all times, allowing players to make informed decisions and reducing the risk of players being frustrated by misinformed moves.

Every mech in Into The Breach is tremendously important, making losing a mech mid-mission devastating. Into The Breach has all the core aspects of a turn-based roguelike, including permanent death, a variety of equipment and upgrades, and turn-based combat. Into The Breach is a distinctive game, and won't be for every roguelike fan.

Although Cogmind may not be the prettiest game, and it certainly looks like an overly complicated mess, it's actually an elegant, addictive, and creative roguelike with truly unique gameplay wrapped up in a traditional package.

Cogmind's aesthetic may be initially off-putting, but its user interface and minimalist animations give it a computer terminal look that helps to make the otherwise minimal graphics somewhat immersive. However, what makes Cogmind so great (and so unique) is its building mechanics, in which players must build out their robotic character by scavenging the levels and scrapping other robots. Since the game has no classes to speak of, a player's character in Cogmind is almost entirely defined by what parts they've equipped, allowing players to switch out their build on the fly to best suit their needs.
