As one of the biggest and most popular streaming services, Netflix realizes very well that every person likes a different genre. And since thriller is one of the most popular genres, Netflix takes the care to include many of thriller movies for the subscribers to stream. Some of them are Netflix's original work while others have been created by studios.

Whatever the case, Netflix has a lot to offer to all thriller fans. So much so that it can be difficult to decide what to watch next. Luckily, some of the best thriller movies available on Netflix have already proven their worth in the past and are unlikely to disappoint anybody who enjoys the genre.

6 Gone Girl (2014)

Gone girl (1)

In thriller movies, men are usually the ones who end up being the bad guys. That's why it's so refreshing to see a movie that turns the old recipe around. Let alone one as clever and surprising as Gone Girl. Those viewers who didn't read Gillian Flynn's book Gone Girl will most likely be surprised at the twists and turns the plot takes.

The movie tells the story of Nick (Ben Affleck) whose wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) disappears, and he tries to make sense of things while the police suspect him he had something to do with Amy's disappearance. David Fincher is well-versed in the thriller genre, as he's directed many memorable movies, such as Zodiac (2007) or Panic Room (2002), but to this day, Gone Girl remains one of his best movies, and thrillers in general.

5 The Hateful Eight (2015)

The Hateful Eight (2015)

Quentin Tarantino has a unique style of storytelling that doesn't sit well with everyone but those who enjoy his fragmented stories are always in for a treat. With The Hateful Eight, Tarantino once again came back to the western genre, but differently than he did so in Django Unchained (2012). The movie focuses on a group of tough people (and some outlaws) who find temporary solace in a cabin when the weather stops their journey.

Their peaceful respite soon turns much less calm and not everyone will leave the cabin alive. The movie has an excellent cast, such as Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson, or Tim Roth. And even though it lasts almost three hours, it never becomes boring since it's difficult to guess what will happen next and the morally ambiguous characters are fun to watch.

4 Nocturnal Animals (2016)

Still from the movie Nocturnal Animals.

Sometimes what's happening in people's heads is just as complex and dangerous as what's happening around them. Tom Ford is known for creating movies that are both visually beautiful and psychologically complex. Nocturnal Animals gives its actors, especially Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal, a lot of space to shine.

Since the movie can be unpredictable, it's fascinating to watch what will happen next. Unlike other movies that belong into the thriller genre, Nocturnal Animals isn't action-filled, but that doesn't make it any less impressive, as the movie has the power to make the audience think.

3 iBoy (2017)

iBoy 2017

iBoy is one of the movies that mostly flew under the radar. That's unfortunate since it has a lot to offer, especially to those who like superheroes but want to see a more unusual superhero movie that isn't American. The main hero gets a new power after he's shot, and he decides to use it to get revenge. That leads him into a lot of trouble, that type of trouble he might not be able to get out of.

The movie feels gritty and real since it deals with the question of trauma as well as the discovery of new powers. It has a strong cast, Bill Millner and Maisie Williams appear in the leading role. Williams' fans especially will be interested to see the talented young actress in a role very different from her iconic Arya Stark in Game of Thrones.

2 Bird Box (2018)

Sandra Bullock (Bird Box)

Sandra Bullock has appeared in many high-quality movies, but Bird Box is one of her best recent pieces. Those viewers who loved A Quiet Place might enjoy the story since it shares some basic similarities, but it's different enough to be fascinating. Bullock plays a woman who's trying to get into safety in a world where seeing is dangerous.

Because when people see what they shouldn't, they go crazy and usually die. The movie is full of tension since the characters are fighting for their lives, and that's difficult to do when they're blindfolded. What makes Bird Box even more compelling is that the audience has no idea what's going on, so it's exciting to learn how the story will evolve. The good news is that if the viewers enjoy the story, they can always return to it in another form since the movie is based on a novel by Josh Malerman.

1 The Devil All The Time (2021)

Tom Holland sitting in a car in The Devil All the Time

The fans who liked Tom Holland's portrayal of Spider-Man in the MCU but want to see the young actor in a very different and a much darker movie shouldn't miss out on watching The Devil All The Time. The movie initially seems to lack a clear narrative, but it soon becomes obvious that's not the case. It provides an insight into the lives of multiple characters whose lives affect others, usually not positively.

The movie keeps the audience hooked because they never know what's going to happen next, who will die and who will live. Many of the characters are less than sympathetic, but it's easy to cheer on Tom Holland's Arvin since he's one of the good guys in the story.
