The 23 Coziest Games on the PS5

The cozy genre has grown over the years with several new additions, and these are the best cozy games for the PS5.

Created by the developers at thatgamecompany, Sky: Children Of The Light is an open-world MMO focused on exploration, as players take the mantle of Sky Children, moving gracefully in a captivating world solving puzzles, meeting new friends, and completing quests. Sky: Children Of The Light does a great job at expressing more with less, be it the words or the atmosphere of the game. With how beautiful the game looks, all this completely immerses players into the game.

The world of Sky is vast with plenty of stuff to explore solo and with friends, and with so much to do, players might get confused about what to do and where to begin. To solve that problem, here is a list of things players should do first in Sky: Children Of The Light.

1 Friends And Communication

Make Friends And Chat

Sky Children talking to a character saying Hello

Sky: Children Of The Light is a social MMO where players can play together with their friends or meet different players across the globe in-game. A big part of social adventure games is to make people connect with each other, and the game does a great job with its communication system.

Unlike other games, Sky takes a different approach to how people can connect. In Sky, players can only chat with people they are friends with, or players can chat with other players in a chat area. Chat areas in Sky are seats with a candle where players can come and sit together to talk for a brief period of time. These chat areas can be found all over the main world, and can be a great way of making new friends in the game.

Another way of chatting in Sky is Portable Chat. Clear from its name, Portable Chat is a feature that allows some accessories to behave as portable chat pieces that players can carry along with them, making it possible to even chat with strangers. These accessories can be obtained via Meditating Monastic, or various in-game events.

2 Flying

Soar In The Endless Skies

characters fly in Sky Children of the Light

What makes Sky: Children Of The Light so immersive is its smooth sailing gameplay, where players can fly across the heavenly vistas and hop on down to the lush skylands. Flying in Sky: Children Of The Light feels extremely satisfying, as players will witness awe-inspiring scenes and ethereal creatures.

In the game, players can fly in two different ways. Players start flapping when they lift themselves from the ground, allowing them to fly slowly with more control. Once in the air, players can switch to gliding, which grants them more speed, thus making it possible to fly faster and travel long distances quickly. They can also use wind currents to aid their flying maneuvers in the sky without wasting any energy.

The Sky Children wear capes that represent the ability to fly. Capes are a cosmetic item in-game, and players have access to a variety of capes that they can obtain from various quests, spirits, events, or by making in-app purchases, to make their avatar look good.

3 Wind Walls

Certain Things Can Exist Unseen

The world of Sky: Children Of The Light is vast, and the colossal world invokes a curiosity inside players to explore every nook and cranny. New players in-game will fly to every single corner of the world, but players sometimes might get stuck in some places.

Wind Walls are invisible walls made of wind that knock players back when approached or entirely prevent them from going any further. If players come across one and get knocked away constantly while trying to force their way through, they should retreat and explore the other parts of the vast world, as there is nothing to explore past these wind walls.

4 Hearts

Valuable Cosmetic Currency

One thing all players in any game should do first is to understand the game's currency system. Sky: Children Of The Light has several currencies used for various purposes, and Hearts are one of the currencies in the game.

Hearts are primarily used to buy cosmetics, or used to buy Expression Upgrades in the game, which are basically emotes, stances (how the avatar stands when not making an expression) or making calls. Hearts can be collected in various ways, be it as a gift from friends, purchasing them from spirits, completing quests, or earning likes on one of the messages that players can leave in the world of Sky.

5 Candles

Basic Currency To Play The Game

Candle in Sky Children of the Light

Candles are the oldest currency in-game. Not to be confused with the red candles, these White Candles form the core currency of the game, and are used in almost every aspect. Candles are required for all social interactions in the game, be it making friends with other players or performing gestures like hugs or a high-five. Candles can be collected by collecting pieces of light as players roam around in the realms or through the completion of daily quests.

These Candles can be obtained by burning red candles or some white ones to obtain pieces of light. These blobs of light accumulate in the form of wax to create a Candle. Candles use a chevron system where players can collect them rapidly at a higher chevron level.

Players will need to collect more pieces of light to receive a Candle. The chevron level goes down by one after every fifth Candle. The chevron system takes an organic approach to candle farming, allowing players to gather candles without rushing and grinding so that they can enjoy the other aspects of the game.

6 Darkness Elements

Careful Of The Dark

Sky: Children Of The Light has a beautiful world full of interesting elements. Some of them might be useful, but a few will be hazardous to the environment. These elements can aid players, or restrict them in different ways. New players need to be wary of these dark elements that impede their progress and experience in the game.

There are various Dark elements in the game, and one of them is Darkness Trees. Typically, burning down a Darkness Tree requires two players. Starting from the tip of the tree, the two players will have to burn down the tree from the top all the way to the core at the bottom. Be aware of constantly using the Candle, as Darkness Trees will grow back if the Candle is not burning.

Rain and polluted water are some other dark elements in the game that negatively impact the player. Rain affects players as it depletes the cape's power and extinguishes lights, so players experiencing rain for the first time need to be wary of it and seek shelter under structures or trees. Polluted or dark water also drains the player’s energy when they come into contact with it, so explorers have to be very aware of them as well.

7 Music

Melodies Captivate The Soul

Gaming is a multimedia experience, and no game is complete without good soundwork. The music in a game can, at times, be the maker or the killer, depending on how it is executed. Games like Minecraft and Stardew Valley also require ambient music to create a soothing vibe that eases the mind of their players.

No open world is complete without having NPCs in it. These NPCs help players with a variety of things, ranging from providing directions or clues to selling items required to make progress through the game. Spirits are some such non-playable characters in Sky: Children Of The Light that serve a key role in the main story of the game.

Spirits act as the anchor point of the game, providing players with the tasks to move forward as they meet these shiny blue beings. Upon meeting them, players need to relive their memories and acquaint themselves with them to unlock cosmetics, expressions, and other good stuff. These spirits also act as a medium to open new areas on the map, so players should definitely look out for them.

9 Events

Time Limited Activities To Do

Sky Children of the Light - Startup Crash Error

Sky: Children Of The Light is a live-service game, and the developers at thatgamecompany always keep on rolling out updates, adding new and exciting content to the game. Players new to the game must be cautious of the Events that appear in the game from time to time, as they bring with them some new and exciting things.

Events in the game can be recurring or non-recurring, so players must always be on the watch if they don’t want to miss out on their rewards. Sky has various types of events, like special events. These events last for a week or two and are based around real life holidays like Halloween.

Short events are another kind of event, but these are unannounced. Short events don’t repeat, making them truly special. Apart from these events, the game also has other events like double reward events, where players receive twice the rewards, making them an ideal opportunity to farm for required items. Players should make sure to take advantage whenever they can.

10 Spells And Potions

Enhance With Enchantments

Apart from running and flying around in the game, players are given the ability to use spells and potions. New players should be on the look-out for spells and potions to make gameplay more fun and interesting.

To obtain spells and potions, players need to finish all the enchantment light quests to gain access to spell shops. Once players get access, they can buy a variety of spells that have a variety of effects. Some spells only have an effect on the players’ character, while others can affect the entire group. Spells can also be used to unlock the chat system or even alter the height of the player.

Players can obtain spells in exchange for Candles. Some spells can be bought only once a day, while others might be available anytime, or only for a few specific days. At home, players can find a boat parked by the shore to trade with for spells and, occasionally, players can obtain spells for free during events, so they should always be on the lookout to not miss the freebies when they become available
