Akira Toriyama's Sand Land is full of action-packed fights, the best of which are its boss fights, which feature many of the game's must-see moments.

He’s the prince of demons who gets recruited by a human sheriff, Rao, to help him find a legendary water source. Beelzebub‘s retainer, Thief, joins the journey as well. That’s the setup for the story but there is so much more to go over. The literal first thing players should do in Sand Land is pick a difficulty level. Beyond that is up to them but prioritizing these tips is a good idea.

6 Getting The Car

Exploring Grottos And Defeating Monsters

Exploring in your car in Sand Land

After a quick tutorial and a few cutscenes with Beelzebub, the adventure will begin once Rao recruits him and Thief for the journey ahead. Rao will hand the wheel over to Beelzebub, which will allow players to explore this section of the desert freely. There’s seemingly not much to do other than to fight monsters for EXP, materials, and money, which is called Zeni in Sand Land.

However, eagle-eyed players may spot grottos along the way which will have a few chests deep down inside. Some attractions may be guarded with boulders or atop high peaks. Whenever this happens, players should take a manual note to backtrack there later. It’s a handy tip for Metroidvanias too.

5 Good Skills To Learn First

Making The Most Of Your Party

Once players do encounter a few enemies or progress through the story, they will level up. Beelzebub and his crew will level up together. When this happens, Beelzebub will get skill points to spend in his skill tree, and his allies will have a secondary allotment of skill points. It’s a basic setup for a skill tree system in an RPG.

In Sand Land, you can acquire one of the including the Tinkering Siblings as a resident of Spino, but you can only choose one of them.

Beelzebub’s skill tree focuses on beefing up his stats, like HP or giving him new attacks. Rao will get abilities to help Beelzebub in battle either actively or passively and the same goes for Thief. Of all the skills that can be bought early on, Thief’s Spoils of War and Zeni Ahoy skills should be acquired as soon as possible. These skills will cause enemies to drop more items and Zeni.

4 Getting The Tank

Armoring Up The Wasteland

Driving the tank in Sand Land

Once players are done dawdling around the opening area with their car, they should proceed on with the story. This will lead the party to a town wherein Thief will go into a mini-quest, turning Sand Land into a stealth game briefly. Soon after, the party will have to sneak onto an enemy base to get a tank.

The tank will open up a lot of gameplay options, from speeding up travel to giving Beelzebub and pals a stronger arm in battle. It can, for example, explode those aforementioned boulders guarding certain grottos. Players should practice their tank skills on the way to Spino.

3 Get To Spino

Getting The Garage Up And Running

Upgrading the tank in Sand Land

After getting the tank, the next story destination is in Spino. Getting here is truly when the game will open up and it is almost worth recommending for players to ignore the previous two suggestions to get here quicker. The biggest get in Spino is Ann’s garage which she can use to upgrade the tank.

Players should make sure to strengthen the body and the weapons as much as possible. By this point, players should have saved up enough Zeni and parts to at least get the tank to level four or five. Side quests, as a feature, will open up in Spino, too, such as one involving a request from the mayor.

2 Explore The Area Around Spino

From Side Quests To Radio Towers

Mos in Sand Land

Once players can safely exit Spino after getting the next main quest update, they should spend some time around the area to stress test the tank. There are a lot tougher enemies in this area, from monsters to wastelanders called Wannabe Junkers. The Wannabe Junkers are nowhere near as ruthless as some of the enemies players can encounter in the Fallout series, which also takes place in a post-apocalypse.

In Sand Land, Quartz has many important uses, such as upgrading your vehicles with EX Chip slots - so knowing how to obtain this item is key.

There is a side quest involving fighting a particular group of Wannabe Junkers who are looking for an ex-Royal Army officer named Mos. Players can help him to the south of Spino for a decent reward. Also, to the east of Spino, players can activate their first radio tower in Sand Land, which will highlight the map with interests similar to scaling towers in other open-world games.

1 Get To Lisab

The Junker Market And Bounties

Fighting the Wasteland Hooligan in Sand Land

The next city players can get to is called Lisab. Players can peruse a variety of shops that sell vehicle parts, materials, consumables, and so much more. It’s also here that players can start the main quest to get their first mech called a Jump-bot.

Story quests side, the most interesting mechanic in Lisab is a vendor that will deal out bounties. The easiest one to tackle first is called the Wasteland Hooligan which is a stronger and bigger version of one of those typical dinosaur enemies. Try to go through as many as possible to get ahead of the game as it will lead to good money in Sand Land.
