The superhero genre has seen massive success in recent years within the film industry. With Marvel's meticulously built cinematic universe featuring hits like Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame as well as DC's successful Batman films and Joker spin-off, superhero-related films are bigger than ever.

Disney Plus may have exclusivity with MCU films and HBO Max with DC, however, Hulu still offers many options for those looking for heroic adventures. Hulu has had success recently with their original superhero shows like M.O.D.O.K. and Hit-Monkey, but they also have some movies that are worth checking out too.

5 My Super Ex-Girlfriend

My Super Ex Girlfriend

One of the forgotten superhero tales of the 2000s is the romantic comedy My Super Ex-Girlfriend. An original screenplay about a man who breaks up with his superhero girlfriend and learns that a vengeful ex can be terrifying when they have extraordinary powers.

Starring Luke Wilson as the laid-back protagonist Matt alongside Uma Thurman as the titular G-Girl, the film offers a fun and cheesy take on the superhero genre. It also has a lot of that early 2000s charm to get nostalgic over. With legendary director of films like Ghostbusters and Stripes Ivan Reitman behind the camera, My Super Ex-Girlfriend is a decent spoof movie worth watching for those fans of rom coms and comics.

4 Astro Boy

Astro Boy is a 2009 animated film adapted from a Japanese manga of the same name. The film, unfortunately, did not see much success in the US or Japan at the time of its release, but it remains a fun family-friendly superhero epic. It follows the story of a robotic boy in the futuristic land of Metro City exploring his purpose and incredible abilities.

Featuring some surprisingly deep themes of acceptance and what it means to be human, Astro Boy is a mostly enjoyable visual spectacle that can be watched by children and adults. Maybe not as iconic as some other animated superhero films like The Incredibles, but it's a nice departure for those with a Hulu subscription.

Deadpool is a film that was anticipated for years and certainly didn't disappoint when it was released in 2016. Follow the story of Marvel comics' Wade Wilson as he becomes horribly disfigured but blessed with healing powers after an experiment. Ryan Reynold's returned to the role with critical acclaim after a brief and infamous portrayal of Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Grossing over $1 billion at the global box office, Deadpool was a massive hit for fans. Deadpool is filled with raunchy laugh-out-loud humor and impressive comedic performances throughout. Those few who still haven't seen it can luckily watch it for the first time on Hulu.

2 Deadpool 2

Deadpool 2 Cropped

After the success of the first film, it's no surprise Deadpool 2 was released only two years later. Ryan Reynold returns and is funnier than ever as the merc with the mouth. Josh Brolin also joins the cast as the futuristic partner of Deadpool named Cable. Together they have to stop a young mutant from growing up to become one of the most deadly villains in their universe.

Even if the plot may be derivative of other sci-fi films, Deadpool 2 was critically and commercially acclaimed for its humor, over-the-top violence, and surprisingly heartfelt moments. Offering even more X-Men characters, vulgarity, and fourth-wall-breaking, Deadpool 2 is an excellent sequel. A Hulu subscription is one of the only ways fans can have a Deadpool double feature night.

1 Watchmen

Watchmen 2009

Another 2009 superhero film available on Hulu is Zack Snyder's Watchmen. Watchmen is an ambitious adaptation of Alan Moore's legendary graphic novel of the same name. It tells the story of an alternate 1980s America where masked heroes are a common sighting. The controversial masked vigilante Rorschach investigates a plot to kill his former heroic partners.

As he revisits other former heroes like Nightowl and the Godlike ex-scientist Dr. Manhattan, Rorschach uncovers a conspiracy that could lead to Earth's doom. Filled with gorgeous visuals made to capture the comic's panels perfectly, as well as great acting performances from the whole cast, Watchmen is one of the most interesting superhero films ever made.
