  • Saddam Hussein's character was phased out as he lost relevancy in real life, reflecting South Park's commitment to staying up-to-date with current events.

South Park is a hilarious series that has somehow managed to stay relevant at a time when most other long-form animated comedy shows have dwindled in popularity. Sure, the series is far from the peak it enjoyed back when most people considered South Park to be the edgiest and most controversial TV show around, but the dropoff hasn't been too major. Barring a poor season that covered one of the most notorious elections in history, South Park has been pretty riveting in its way.

RPGs are known for being lengthy titles that take days and days to complete, but these fairly brief games can be finished during a single weekend.

Many memorable characters in South Park have made their presence known time and time again across the many seasons of this legendary comedy series. However, not all characters have managed to stick out in the long run. Some characters have either been written off or killed, and the reasons for this decision vary for each character.

6 Chef

A Legendary Character Whose Voice Actor Left The Show After It Mocked Scientology

  • Last Episode: The Return of Chef (Season 10, Episode 1)

Chef was one of the most beloved characters in South Park, with his dulcet tones and voice of reason helping the children out time and time again. He was one of the few adults in South Park who took these kids seriously, which is what made his fate so shocking. After an infamous South Park episode mocked Scientology, the voice actor of Chef, Isaac Hayes, couldn't stick with the show anymore.

Hayes was himself a Scientologist and decided to part ways with South Park. Trey Parker and Matt Stone gave him a sendoff only these two could manage — they brought him back as a brainwashed man speaking nonsense who ends up being mauled to death by a bear, while the kids say something poignant during his drawn-out demise.

5 Diane Choksondik

A Hilarious Addition To The Show Whose Death Was Spoiled In The Previous Episode For A Gag

  • Last Episode: The Simpsons Already Did It (Season 6, Episode 7)

South Park Elementary is easily one of the most dysfunctional schools ever conceived. Controversies happen regularly here, and the staff range from extreme to incompetent. A person like Ms. Choksondik who seems like a normal person, ends up coming out with her baggage, both figuratively and literally.

South Park: 8 Best Cartman Quotes That Are Surprisingly Insightful

South Park's residential child psychopath has done some horrible things over the years, but there are rare moments he offers some serious insight.

She has several memorable moments in the show, including a romance with Mr. Garrison. However, tragedy strikes when she dies of unknown causes, prompting the boys to blame themselves because of a hilarious misunderstanding. Her demise is a huge mystery in the series, but most fans have moved on from this character given how much time it has been since she was written off.

4 Veronica Crabtree

Murdered By The Serial Killer, Michael Deets

  • Last Episode: Cartman's Incredible Gift (Season 8, Episode 13)

A parody of the crabby bus drivers who've haunted kids time and time again, Ms. Crabtree was a one-trick pony who screamed at kids in an over-the-top manner and looked positively hideous. It was only a matter of time before her character was retired, given how tiring her jokes became throughout the series.

Eventually, she was killed by the serial killer, Michael Deets, in a rather gory sendoff for the bus driver. Her appearances had been sporadic anyway, and she wasn't someone fans would miss. This joke was even cracked in the episode itself, marking one of the few times that South Park broke the fourth wall.

3 Saddam Hussein

Written Off After His Real-Life Inspiration Lost His Relevancy

Saddam Hussein & Satan From South Park Written Killed Off Retired Characters
  • Last Episode: It's Christmas in Canada (Season 7, Episode 15)

South Parkhas a penchant for the bizarre, and nothing's weirder than casting a fictional version of Saddam Hussein as Satan's lover. This character is hilarious, abusing Satan and making him feel worthless. Things reach a head when Satan has had enough and breaks up with Saddam, but that doesn't stop the two of them from sharing some hilarious adventures.

Kenny is one of the most beloved characters in South Park. Here's a look at some of the best episodes featuring him.

As time has passed, the real-life character of Saddam Hussein lost his relevancy. Given how South Park liked to stay up-to-date with current events, Saddam's character was silently phased out of the show in favor of newer personalities who would be more relevant to parody instead of a has-been dictator.

2 Mr. Hankey

A Sentient Piece Of Poo Who Is Cancelled And Sent To Springfield

A still from the South Park Christmas special "Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics"
  • Last Episode: The Problem with a Poo (Season 22, Episode 3)

Many characters in South Park are warmly received by the audience because of smart writing and memorable scenarios. However, one character that ended up overstaying his welcome was Mr. Hankey, a sentient piece of Christmas-themed poo whose high-pitched voice and annoying catchphrases divided the fanbase.

It took an entire episode dedicated to Mr. Hankey being canceled for his drug-fueled outbursts for the piece of poo to finally be written off-screen. Hilariously enough, Mr. Hankey is sent to Springfield, where he would become a part of The Simpsons in a rather elaborate gag.

1 Pip Pirrip

A Pompous British Student Who Never Really Found a Role In The Gang

Pip From South Park Written Killed Off Retired Characters
  • Last Episode: 201 (Season 14, Episode 6)

Pip is an Englishman with a rather unique way of talking that makes him an easy character to make fun of. However, it was clear that this character's accent was the only thing that made him relevant in the series, and there weren't a lot of ways he could fit into the world of South Park.

After losing his relevancy and making sporadic appearances throughout the series, Pip is finally done away with in episode 201, where a massive Mecha Streisand promptly stomps and kills him in one of the series' more hilarious deaths.
