One of the driving forces for a Soulslike game is the ability to lock on, roll, and use a sharp weapon like a sword. Plenty of the best Soulslike games follow this structure, with players committed to the high-speed thrills and aggressive action of enemies that are seeking the player’s game over screen. Yet, how would these same enemies respond if the player brought a gun to a knife fight?

The Medic Archetype from Remnant 2

The survivors of humanity return in Remnant 2, a game where players are pitted against deadly creatures from all manners of horrific dimensions. The main intrigue of Remnant 2, outside of the build variety, co-op, and god-like bosses, comes from the fact that combat is reliant on guns, a unique take on the Soulslike genre.

Remnant 2 features its own identity thanks to its gunplay, and it certainly evolves the systems in place from the first, complete with new mechanics and balances to the arsenal of weapons players will find. Remnant 2 is a fairly recent release, but the gunplay is as exciting, if not more so, than its predecessor.

A relatively unknown action-RPG Soulslike game, Immortal: Unchained attempted to do something different from previous Soulslikes, even if that was at the cost of a mixed reception at launch. Immortal: Unchained featured gunplay, where players were living weapon that was seeking the source to stop the end of the world. However, story aside, the main takeaway from Immortal: Unchained is the use of guns that players will find to quell the world with demonic wrath.

In its rawest form, Immortal: Unchained is Soulslike with guns. Players will have to watch for their stamina, enemy placement, and their ammunition if they are to stay on top against the overwhelming odds before them. Players can expect a fair supply of guns, but it’s best not to waste those precious bullets when a boss could be around the corner.

The player at their camp in Outward

The world of Aurai is a dangerous one, and Outward will fill players with looming dread over the threats that lurk inside the open world. However, some players might feel braver than most, and venture out to find the rare gun or two.

There are a few pistols in Outward, and these unique weapon types can provide high damage to the players that wield them. The gameplay is a lot of fun in Remnant: From The Ashes, and for those looking for the definitive Soulslike game with guns, then this is surely it. However, the recent sequel, Remnant 2, improves a lot on the features of this original game, but it still does not take away from the fun of Remnant: From The Ashes.

1 Bloodborne

Bloodborne walked so other Soulslikes could run. The game features a gun for players’ left-hand weapon slot, and there are a far few guns that players can try out. Whether it’s the overpowered cannon, Gatling gun, or the simple pistol, players can walk their way through Bloodborne with the right build to become a gun-shooting Hunter against all manners of beasts.

If players aren’t feeling like they want to shoot everything in sight, then instead they can use their gun to parry and shoot enemies just before their attack connects so that they can stun them, and complete a visceral attack. The gunplay in Bloodborne is somewhat basic but extremely enjoyable in combat.
