Pikmin 4 Review

Pikmin 4 provides another whimsical adventure for an ant-sized group of explorers and, like the previous games, it will leave most players delighted.

As announced by Nintendo, Pikmin 4 has sold 2.5 million copies since July, which makes it the best-selling Pikmin game of all time. The highly-rated Super Mario Bros. Wonder, meanwhile, broke the record for fastest-selling Super Mario game, amassing 4.3 million units sold in just two weeks.

The Nintendo Switch is one of the best-selling video game consoles of all time, and so it's no surprise that its games have also sold incredibly well. One has to imagine that the incredible sales success enjoyed by these titles will inform Nintendo's plans when it comes to the Switch 2, or whatever the next Nintendo system ends up being called. While Pikmin isn't exactly known to be Nintendo's best-selling franchise, Pikmin 4's record-breaking sales indicate that the franchise's popularity has only grown over the years. A Pikmin 5 on Nintendo's next console could very well take the series to new heights.

As far as Super Mario goes, it's a no-brainer that Nintendo is going to make more Mario games. The only question is what form they will take. Rumors have persisted that an open world Super Mario game may be in development for Nintendo's next console, but Super Mario Bros. Wonder's dizzying success proves that there is still a very sizable market for 2D Super Mario games as well.

  8. Super Mario Party - 19.66 million
  9. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - 19.50 million
  10. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe - 16.70 million

Despite their strong sales, neither Pikmin 4 nor Super Mario Bros. Wonder have managed to crack the top 10 best-selling Switch games list yet, but one has to imagine that will be a possibility as time goes on, especially for Wonder. With the holiday season fast approaching and over 130 million Switch units sold to date, it's likely that both games will be getting massive sales boosts this coming quarter.
