Just days before the end of the year, Steam is sharing a list of the platform's best-selling games from 2023. While the list features many of the best games of 2023, there are also some older, ongoing titles as well as some genuine surprises.
While the list itself is a fun look back on the year, it also serves as a chance to check out discounts on some of the best games of the past 12 months thanks to Steam's ongoing winter sale. Not only can fans see which of their favorite games managed to land in the top 100 best-selling Steam games from the past year, but they can also add some new titles to their backlog by grabbing the software while currently discounted.
One of 2023's Best Games is Back on Top of the Steam Sales Charts 4 Months After Launch
One of 2023's highest-rated games finds itself back at the very top of Steam's Top Sellers chart four months after it first launched.
Steam is sharing the 100 best-selling games on the platform from January 1, 2023, to December 15, 2023. The digital storefront divided the best-selling titles of the year into four different sales tiers: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Platinum represents the top 12 best-selling games of the year, while Gold features titles 13-24, Silver represents 25-50, and Bronze displays the rest. Within the categories, however, Steam claims that games are listed in random order as "revenue specifics are not disclosed."

While this list represents the overall best-selling Steam games of the past year, the digital storefront has also broken the data into different categories. Fans can also see which new releases, Steam Deck, and VR games performed the best, among others. Additionally, the platform is sharing the most-played games of the year.
Perhaps one of the most discussed games on the list from the past year is Starfield. Obviously, Xbox Game Pass has not stopped Starfield from selling well despite being included on the subscription service since it launched. Additionally, the sci-fi RPG from Bethesda has proven to be a success for Game Pass itself, as the platform saw a significant rise in subscriber numbers during the game's release window. Impressively enough, in every eligible category, Starfield scored top honors. Whether in the most-played or best-selling tabs, Starfield managed to find itself in the Platinum category.
In conjunction with software sales, Steam had a pretty successful year with the release of the Steam Deck OLED handheld. While the initial iteration of the Steam Deck hardware proved to be a game-changer for PC players, the OLED upgrade has improved on a number of features outside of providing gamers with an excellent new screen.
