Updated Capcom financial information confirms that the Resident Evil 2 remake has officially overtaken Resident Evil 7 to become the best-selling Resident Evil game in franchise history so far. Capcom has been on an absolute roll lately, and a fact reflected by the company's top-selling games, almost all of which are titles that have released within the last decade.
The best-selling Capcom game of all time is still Monster Hunter World with 19 million units sold, followed by Monster Hunter Rise at 13.2 million units. Monster Hunter and Resident Evil absolutely dominate Capcom's top 10 best-selling games, with the only other franchise represented on the list being Street Fighter. Street Fighter 5 is in 10th place with 7.3 million units sold, which may come as a surprise to fans considering the game was not particularly well-received, especially compared to Street Fighter 4 or the recently-released Street Fighter 6.
The third-best selling Capcom game of all time is the Resident Evil 2 remake at 12.6 million, followed by Resident Evil 7 at 12.4 million, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne at 10.5 million, Resident Evil 5 at 8.8 million, Resident Evil 6 at 8.8 million, Resident Evil Village at 8.3 million, the Resident Evil 3 remake at 7.6 million, and the aforementioned Street Fighter 5 at 7.3 million. With six of the 10 slots taken up by the Resident Evil franchise, it's really no surprise Capcom has been releasing a new game in the survival-horror series every year since 2019.

Resident Evil 5 had the distinction of being the best-selling Resident Evil game for the longest time, but Resident Evil 7 eventually surpassed it, despite a slow start. Now that the critically-acclaimed Resident Evil 2 remake has taken the top spot, it will be interesting to see if any other Resident Evil series game ever surpasses it.
The Resident Evil 4 remake has been a big sales success, but has yet to crack the top 10. If the Resident Evil 4 remake remains as persistently popular as the other recent Resident Evil games have, it's possible it could one day take RE2's spot as the top-selling Resident Evil game, though it has a very long way to go. Considering this, it's likely that the Resident Evil 2 remake will remain the best-selling Resident Evil game for years to come, but it will definitely be interesting to see how the list is shaken up with future updates from Capcom.
