The latest NPD video game sales report is in, and it reveals the 10 best-selling games of 2019 so far. Video game sales for April aren't counted in the list, but the list does represent the 10 best-selling titles for the first quarter of 2019 (January - March), and some gamers may be surprised by the results.

According to the NPD, Kingdom Hearts 3 is the best-selling game of 2019 so far. Furthermore, Kingdom Hearts 3 is the best-selling Kingdom Hearts game in series history, a distinction that's been held by the first game for nearly two decades. Considering the massive sales success of Kingdom Hearts 3, it's safe to say that Kingdom Hearts 4 is an inevitability at this point.

The second-best selling game of 2019 is none other than The Division 2. Ubisoft's looter-shooter looks to provide endless hours of content for fans of the genre, with more to come in the form of new raids and story episodes.

Here are the 10 best-selling games of 2019 so far:

  1. Kingdom Hearts 3
  2. Tom Clancy's The Division 2
  3. Anthem
  4. Resident Evil 2 (2019)
  5. Red Dead Redemption 2
  6. Jump Force
  7. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
  8. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
  9. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
  10. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
10 best selling games of 2019 so far

We're still early in the year, and so it's very likely that the list of best-selling games of 2019 will look much different come July when the second quarter sales report becomes available. It's possible that major 2018 games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will hang on, but more niche titles like Jump Force and the New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Switch port may very well fall off the list.

Another game that may struggle to hold its high spot on the list is Anthem. While Anthem seems to have had a very strong sales start, the game has found itself the center of one controversy after the next since release. Public opinion of Anthem seems to have soured quite a bit and that coupled with poor reviews may spell bad news for the game's sales future.

Meanwhile, many of 2019's biggest games will likely launch in fall of this year, as is typical of the gaming industry. The games that release during the fall months could disrupt the list of the 10 best-selling games of 2019 in a big way, possibly displacing multiple titles. Time will tell, but it seems likely based on past years.
