Eight months following its critically acclaimed market debut, Octopath Traveler 2 has been treated to its steepest discounts yet, with Square Enix marking down the digital versions of the game by 30%. PlayStation Store and Steam users have until next Thursday, December 21, to take advantage of this holiday offer. Meanwhile, the game's eShop sale will run all the way until Christmas. Apart from being widely touted as one of the best RPGs on the Switch, the Octopath Traveler 2 port for Nintendo's hybrid console is also a compelling offer because buying it nets its owner 210 Gold Points that can be spent toward eShop discounts. That specific amount is equivalent to $2.10 in savings.

Square Enix is currently also offering the physical versions of Octopath Traveler 2 for Sony's consoles at even steeper discounts. Specifically, the PS4 and PS5 copies are currently available at 33% and 50% off, respectively, on Amazon. Both of these offers are official, in the sense that they come directly from Square Enix instead of third-party resellers. It is presently unclear how long the Amazon deals will last, although the historical prices of their associated listings suggest that fans shouldn't count on either offer to be live for longer than the aforementioned digital sales.

Overall, this wave of holiday discounts is an excellent opportunity for almost anyone who hasn't yet experienced Octopath Traveler 2 to do so on the cheap. Although the game itself largely caters to JRPG fans, it's far from a traditional example of its genre, not least because of the non-linear story structure that it employs, which is something that it inherited from its 2018 predecessor.

RPG aficionados who'd prefer to tackle this unique RPG on Microsoft's consoles should get their wish in the following months. Namely, although Octopath Traveler 2 ostensibly won't be launching on Xbox Game Pass for the time being, its Xbox One and Series X/S ports are still slated to release in early 2024.
