The Assassin’s Creed franchise constantly has the protagonist warped in a romance, filled with the typical tropes that would add tension and conflict. The constant war between Assassins and Templars sees the inevitable romance blossom between enemies, and there have been a few times in the best Assassin’s Creed games where the lust of characters has gotten past the hidden blades and hooded cloaks.

The romance between characters in Assassin’s Creed characters often adds motivation to progress and a reason to continue through the Creed’s brotherhood. Some of the best romances in Assassin’s Creed provide some protagonists with the peace and love they deserve, whereas others, only add to their tragedy.

8 Petra (Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla)

Petra is a romance option for players in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. Although players might have plenty of choices, Petra is probably the best romance choice that players can make, due to her story, and the natural progression of both characters as they learn more about each other, and work together.

Players will receive a few tasks and missions to progress Petra’s story. Although committing to a romance with Petra has no overriding narrative to the entirety of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, it’s still a sweet one, even if it is rather short.

7 Desmond And Lucy (Assassin’s Creed 2)

Desmond may have begun as an unwilling and unknowing test subject for Abstergo, but he quickly found himself thrust into an important role, with the fate of the Assassins resting on his hands, and the DNA and ancestors he harbors through the power of the Animus. Desmond grows as a person through the Assassin’s Creed, as do the feelings he shares for the Abstergo agent, Lucy.

The two develop feelings for each other that players will experience in the modern-day missions of the original Assassin’s Creed games. However, this slow romance is cut short, as Desmond is forced to kill her.

6 Kyra (Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey)

There may be a few romance options in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, but for many, Kyra is the one that makes the most sense. Her morals and her path make her a viable option to the player protagonist, as she is a Greek woman who wants to lead a rebellion on Mykonos, liberating the islands from a cult that has ruled for far too long.

Kyra stands for freedom and justice, and characters can feel a union with this Spartan rebellion leader. There’s a great depth to the romance option here in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey and one player should explore over the others.

5 Arno And Elise (Assassin’s Creed: Unity)

Arno and Elise are locked in a lover’s quarry in Assassin’s Creed: Unity. The two are fated, like poetry. It is a tale as old as time, enemies turned into lovers. Arno is an Assassin, and Elise is a Templar. Yet, the two can’t help but linger in their love for one another. After all, they have known each other since childhood, so their feelings have been building for quite some time.

Despite the building of tension between the two, Elise throws romance away in favor of revenge for her father. Arno and Elise have an interesting relationship, and a romance that ends far too soon, and far too unjust what it should have been.

The two are fated to be together, and they even have a child together. However, happiness cannot last, especially in the life of a pirate and Assassin. Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag may have players adoring the relationship between Edward and Caroline, but Templars have something to say about it.

3 Altair And Maria (Assassin’s Creed)

The first romance to blossom in the Assassin’s Creed series comes from the very first game. Players are introduced to Altair, a youthful Assassin, who quickly falls for Maria, a member of the Templars. Relationships like this always play off each other very well, and the trope of enemies turned to lovers may be overextended in a few franchises, but that’s because it always works, when written well.

Altair and Maria share many exciting moments, and their “cat-and-mouse” game builds the romantic tension to unpalpable degrees. Their romance is completely natural and never forced, allowing players to find themselves in the joyful watch of Altair and Maria’s love.

2 Ezio And Sofia (Assassin’s Creed: Revelations)

ezio and sophia

Ezio has lost more than his fair share of love in life. Whether those are girlfriends, brothers, or parents. Ezio has been through many tragedies across the Assassin’s Creed games, and as he winds down as an old man, seeking answers to the Assassin's past, he comes across Sofia in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations.

Sofia is far different from what Ezio is used to. She isn’t a woman that scales buildings or hunts the streets with hidden blades. She is a woman of literature, a lover of intelligence. Sofia is perfect for Ezio as he retires to old age, and the two develop strong feelings for one another, even leading to Ezio giving up the life of an Assassin for her hand in marriage.

Aya and Bayek develop a strong bond with each other during the events of Assassin’s Creed: Origins. The two worked together to fight the enemies of Egypt, and they had many mutual missions, with aligning goals that see them get closer to love in a blossoming romance.

There’s a good reason that Aya and Bayek are wed, and part of that is due to their shared skills and talents when it comes to taking what they want, or doing what is just. Although there is some sadness experienced in the story of Assassin’s Creed: Origins, the love of Aya and Bayek is a strong beacon of light.
