Real-time tactics and real-time strategy games may be similar at first but function in slightly different ways. While real-time strategy games tend to have players collecting resources and building bases; real-time tactic titles encourage players to focus on combat above all else and therefore there is less of a focus on gathering the necessary resources to grow stronger. However, this achievement doesn't last long as the humans face an even bigger threat known as the Substrate.
In this real-time tactics sci-fi game players can choose to play at the Post Human coalition or even the opposition of the Substrate as they attempt to control the entire Galaxy against the other. Playing either alone or with friends can make Ashes of the Singularity into an intense tactical game across plenty of large maps to pick from.

Taking a step away from space warfare, some sci-fi tactical titles instead take place on the planet surfaces of this yet to be explored galaxy. Red Solstice 2: Survivors is a sequel to a much-loved real-time tactic game that continues to interest players.

Adapted from the equally loved sci-fi space battle tabletop game Warhammer 40,000, Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 is another brilliant sequel that expanded upon its predecessor greatly with all new factions and expansive warfare.

What makes sci-fi strategy games so fascinating is the possibility to create new alien species with their own ideals and tactics that can be made the most of in these extreme space battles. In Nexus, players can choose between six alien species that each have their own unique tactics in battles as well as their own spaceships.
This means that outside of the campaign players still have a variety of ways of playing this RTT game without getting bored. Not to forget mentioning that Nexus – The Jupiter Incident also expands on characters as players can even obtain unique units as well as ships.

Combat that takes place on the planet surface doesn't have to be boring with regular units and Planetary Annihilation: TITANS proves this with their assortment of ginormous units, players can make the most of in combat. As the name suggests, players have TITAN-class units under their control that can either destroy ground units or even those that soar across the sky.
Destruction is imminent in this amazing tactical game as players end each game by destroying the battlefield they once fought on. Replaying some of the best moments of the match in real-time while the game is still going rewards the player for their quick thinking.

Set in the Dune universe this real-time tactic title has intrigued many players in recent years. Players must balance their power if they hope to win as in this universe being the one to control Spice is the one that controls the whole universe.
