Sony capped off its latest PlayStation State of Play event by confirming that a new Astro Bot game will be released on September 6. While the Astro Bot series hasn't been as commercially successful as the platformer mascot games featured on other consoles, the franchise has consistently earned critical acclaim. In fact, the Astro Bot game currently available on PS5 is actually one of the platform's highest-rated games to date.

The Astro Bot franchise originated with a tech demo called The Playroom on the PS4, and has since expanded to include more fully-featured experiences. Astro Bot: Rescue Mission is one of the most critically-acclaimed games ever released for the original PlayStation VR headset on the PS4, and Astro's Playroom on PS5 is indeed one of the platform's highest-rated exclusive games. As a pack-in title and tech demo for the PS5, Astro's Playroom is admittedly limited compared to some other PlayStation games, however. Luckily, the next Astro Bot game is poised to be the mascot's biggest adventure yet.
