Human civilization lives with the haunting understanding that life will one day end and the sci-fi genre has dutifully explored the survivability of this concept with a number of fan-favorite movies set after the looming end of society for whatever reason, be it natural disasters, man-made wars or Hollywood's fascination with zombie apocalypses.
