There are over a thousand different types of Pokémon, both big, small, fluffy, and covered in slime. While most fans have had the chance to build their dream team in Pokemon, many have also considered what it would be like to have Pokémon as a pet.

A powerful Pokémon who will dominate the battlefield may not always be suited to domestic life. Pokémon Trainers could seriously be putting their home and family at risk, especially with some Legendary Pokémon, which begs the question of what Pokémon could become man's next best friend?

10 Yamper

Yamper is an adorable electric-type Galar region Pokemon. This Gen 8 Pokémon looks remarkably similar to a corgi with little legs and big fluffy ears. The overall look and size of this Pokémon just scream take me home and wrap me in a blanket, but Yamper’s has many more qualities that make it an excellent pet.

For starters, Yamper’s can be very useful, both when herding other Pokémon and catching them. The ability Ball Fetch, allows a Yamper to retrieve Pokeballs if their trainer fails to catch their target, making this a handy Pokémon to have around. Additionally, Yampers are known for their love of food, making them perfect pets, as they will respond to training very quickly when treats are involved.

9 Chansey

A Pokémon that would make an exceptional pet is Chansey, from Gen 1. Chansey has a kind heart and is often seen helping Nurse Joy look after sick Pokémon. Having this Pokémon as a pet means a medical assistant is always at hand.

On top of this, a Chansey is believed to be lucky and spread happiness to anyone who catches them. They also lay several special eggs each day. These eggs are filled with nutrients and are high-quality cooking ingredients. Chansey will often give their eggs to the people they love.

8 Growlithe

Growlithe is one of the best fire-type Pokemon so it's best not to have them in a wooden cabin. However, if Pokémon Trainers can get over the risk of fire, Growlithe can be an excellent pet to own. Loyalty, obedience, and cuteness, this Pokémon has it all.

Officer Jenny uses Growlithe within the police force, which means that this Pokémon is capable of protecting its trainer. Although Growlithe will bark and bite if it believes there is a threat nearby, it will also follow instructions and is an incredibly loyal friend to have.

7 Rapidash

Rapidash may not fit through normal-sized doorways, but the Gen 1 best horse Pokemon can still be considered an amazing pet. This stunning Pokémon is capable of running at high speeds and can travel across an entire region in under two days. Its owner will never have to pay to travel again.

Rapidash is also known to have a very strong sense of friendship. Its long flaming mane will not burn those they consider a friend and its constant glow can provide light in the darkness. With Rapidash as a pet, Pokémon Trainers can stay warm on long rides and be confident that this Pokémon holds and gives a bout of love.

6 Jigglypuff

Jigglypuff is a well-known Pokémon and a great option for a pet. This normal and fairy type from Gen 1 is a super cute pink shire with little arms, legs, and a wisp of hair. Jigglypuff is incredibly friendly and a great size to live indoors.

Additionally, Jigglypuff has the added benefit of being able to sing a lullaby. It can ensure that its owner will always be able to have a good night's sleep, which can be incredibly useful for those who struggle to sleep or have nightmares.

5 Eevee

Eevee is most definitely a fan favorite, mostly due to its cute appearance and exciting evolution options. When exposed to different stones, Eevee can evolve into eight different Pokémon, including; Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espion, Glaceon, Umbreon, Leafeon, and Sylveon.

As a pet, its evolution abilities mean that an Eevee can adapt to fit its owner, so pet owners are truly getting a best friend in this Pokémon. Additionally, having the option of choosing a pet’s type means Eeve can adapt to its environment. For instance, when living in a cold climate, Glaceon the ice Pokémon, is likely the best fit.

4 Oricorio

Oricorio is one of the most majestic flying types of Pokémon. It looks different, and gains a different type, depending on what nectar it consumes. For example, the Baile Oricorio has red and black colorings and is a fire and flying type, whereas the Pa’u Oricorio is pink, white, and a psychic and flying type.

This flying Pokémon would make a very fun and unique pet. Oricorio loves to dance and use their funky moves to connect with people, cheer them up, maintain health, or remind people of their homelands.

3 Ditto

If players can't decide which Pokémon would make the best pet, why not choose a Ditto? This pink blob can transform into any other Pokémon, object, or even a person. Each Ditto has unique tells when they are transformed. For instance, while some Dittos are not able to change their face, others will change back if they laugh.

Using its abilities, a Ditto can become friends with almost any other Pokémon. Their friendly and approachable natures make them the perfect Pokémon to have in a home and around other pets. When they go to sleep Ditto often turns into a rock, making them easy to care for and share a room with.

2 Rotom

Rotom is an incredibly interesting Pokémon. Although this electric type can be mischievous, it can help out massively around the house and have the potential to be the perfect pet.

A Rotom can possess several electronic devices like fridges, washing machines, microwaves, and much more. On top of this, Rotom can enhance phones and the Pokedex which allows them to speak to their trainers directly. This means open communication between an owner and their pet as well as invaluable help in all areas of life.

1 Shuppet

Although a ghost-type Pokemon may not be most people's idea of a pet, for Shuppet, trainers should make an exception. Despite its ghost-like appearance, having Shuppet around may just change a life.

This Pokémon has horns that collect and then feed on negative emotions. This means pet owners won't need to purchase kibble, and that Shuppet may be the best stress reliever around. Anger issues? Gone. Jealousy? This pet's breakfast. Shuppet could be the perfect pet to help combat the negatives of mental health.
