With the focus on narrative experiences in modern times, it's easy to see why the PlayStation is carving a name for itself as one of the best modern developers. The stories are pretty mature, and so are the characters as well! Protagonists and major characters in PlayStation games are pretty old and even have the experience of being a parent! The most notable examples of the same are mentioned below.

10 Freya (God Of War)

For what it's worth, Freya had her heart in the right place when she made Baldur immortal and immune to all pain. She was trying to avert a deadly prophecy for her son and ended up alienating him in the process.

This triggers the chain of events that leads to Kratos finally killing Baldur off and ending the cycle. This enrages Freya to no end, who hunts down Kratos in a bid to make him pay in God of War: Ragnarok.

9 Barret Wallace (Final Fantasy 7)

Barret is a great character from Final Fantasy 7 who ends up taking care of Marlene after the tragedy that befell his friend, Dyne. However, it must be said that his actions endanger Marlene quite a bit, even if his heart is in the right place.

He has no problems with assigning Marlene to take care of a rowdy bar that serves alcohol while he goes off on his rampage against Shinra. However, it's the love he has for Marlene and how it's reciprocated that makes him such a great character.

4 Rost (Horizon: Zero Dawn)

Rost from Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon: Zero Dawn's intro is pretty great, introducing Aloy and Rost as two outcasts who are learning the ways of life in the world. Aloy's development is fuelled by Rost, who ends up sacrificing his own life to save his daughter.
