The vampire genre started with horror movies back in the silent era. It continued with the 1931 Dracula and for decades, it mostly stayed in the horror realm. Just like other supernatural creatures, vampires also experienced transformation in the movies in the end. They started appearing in other genres more and more often, such as romantic movies, comedies, or action pieces.

The new Netflix movie Day Shift starring Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco fits the action comedy category. The movie garnered positive reviews from many viewers and offered a new look at vampires. Those who enjoyed it and would like to watch something similar on Netflix, fortunately, have multiple options to choose from.

5 The Babysitter (2017)

The Babysitter

One is a vampire story, the other one Satanic, yet what both Day Shift and The Babysitter share is a strong sense of humor and exaggeration. As such, this story about a young boy who has to fight his babysitter and her friends who have just sacrificed an innocent guy in his house has a lot to offer. It combines humor and tension-filled scenes.

If that wasn't enough, it's full of great performances, most notably from Samara Weaving, who plays the titular babysitter, Bee, and is both terrifying and charming in her role. So much so, that it's easy to understand why Cole fell in love with her before he realized who she really was. Anybody who likes a dark comedy has the potential to enjoy the movie. As multiple successful horrors, The Babysitter also spawned a sequel, in 2020, but the first movie scored better ratings with the audience.

4 Vampires Vs. The Bronx (2020)

Vampires vs. the Bronx

Vampire and horror movies aren't usually oriented toward children. Day Shift might be a bit too violent for the youngest audience. The good news is that another Netflix vampire movie bridges the gap and is enjoyable for both children and adults. In Vampires vs. the Bronx, a group of young friends is fighting against vampires who want to take control of their homes. Just like Bud, the heroes of this movie are determined to make certain the vampires won't win!

Unlike Jamie Foxx's hero, they haven't yet learned how to dispose of vampires, but they're intelligent and will figure it out. Despite several intense scenes, Vampires vs. the Bronx also works with humor, so it comes over as a feel-good piece in the end. Both movies aren't afraid to make fun of vampires and the heroes, and it adds even more charm.

3 Red Notice (2021)

Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot in Netflix's Red Notice

Red Notice might not have stellar reviews online, but that doesn't change the fact it's a lot of fun and action - just like Day Shift. Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne Johnson create an unforgettable buddy cop duo. And whenever Gal Gadot appears on the scene, the movie's amusement factor rises even higher. The plot has its weak points but the sense of adventure, the cast, and the humor ensure it's easy to overlook it.

What's more, both Red Notice and Day Shift offer more than one unpredictable plot point which means the viewers will be intrigued to know what happens next. There are no supernatural creatures in Red Notice, yet it keeps a fast pace just like Day Shift and is an ideal movie for anyone who wants to get entertained.

2 Night Teeth (2021)

Night Teeth Netflix

Less than a year before the release of Day Shift, another vampire movie set in the Los Angeles area premiered. As such, it's interesting to compare the vampire mythologies in Day Shift and Night Teeth since both movies offer their own view of the bloodsucking creatures. Night Teeth gives even more space to vampire protagonists, most importantly the two close friends, Blaire and Zoe.

Unlike Day Shift, it also shows that vampires can be good or evil, depending on what they choose. Foxx's Bud and Jorge Lendeborg Jr.'s Benny probably wouldn't get along too well considering Benny's affection for Blaire, but that doesn't change the fact their movies are a must-watch for all vampire fans. What connects them is that both protagonists get caught up with vampires because they want to help their families. Bud is working hard to have enough money for his daughter and Benny helps out his brother, which leads him directly into Blaire's and Zoe's paths.

1 The Adam Project (2022)

the_adam_project Cropped (1)

One is a vampire action comedy, the other a time travel sci-fi movie. Yet what they have in common is their sense of humor and action spirit. The Adam Project features more than one hilarious scene and quip thanks to the cast featuring Ryan Reynolds, Zoe Saldana, and Mark Ruffalo, as well as the absurdity of the situations the characters get into.

At the same time, they're fighting for their lives and are trying to save the future which means they have to take on their enemies. Another similarity is the emphasis on family relationships. It's already been stated that Bud wants to take care of his daughter and Adam is trying to save not only his wife Laura but also his father Louis.
