The space marines are far from palate-swapped super soldiers, and each of their different legions has its own special traits and unique battle philosophy. Mods for Space Marine allow players to control any of their favorite legions, rather than just the ultramarines, as well as different soldiers within them such as chaplains and terminators. This list has been updated to include a few more amazing mods available for Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine.
14 Maps Warhammer 40K Legacy
Space Marine is a game that perfectly captures every aspect of the Grimdark universe, from the larger-than-life combat to the immense environments it takes place in. Throughout the game, players will explore a giant, ruined industrial complex on the planet of Graia that has been over-run with orks.
One player has created a new map pack for the game that adds 16 new arenas for players to use in multiplayer. 8 of them have been built by the mod's author, while the other half have been collected from other mod packs that have since gone out of date. Those who enjoy playing Space Marine will find this mod great for breathing new life into this gameplay mode.
13 Space Marine True FOV Mod
Many mods made for Warhammer 40k: Space Marine have since been rendered obsolete by later versions of the game. Often these lost mods are recreated by the original author but this isn't always possible.
The True FOV addon changes the game's field of view, which is great for players who aren't keen on the game's original camera position. It also incorporates several lost mods, offering new weapons and armors that can't be easily found elsewhere. The 100 fov won't work perfectly due to the way the original game was designed, but many of the other alternate camera positions are perfectly functional.
12 Gore Mod
When it comes to 40k, there really is no such thing as too much gore. With vicious chainsaws and orks wielding axes as large as a small person, a realistic depiction of most battlefields would require everything to be plastered with blood and viscera within the first few minutes.
This mod makes that dream a reality and ups the game's gore to a level suitable for the 41st millennium. As well as slightly upping the gore, this addon makes all the blood effects stay on screen much longer rather than just magically vanishing after a few minutes.
11 Ultramarines Enhanced
The many different legions of space marines each have their own rich and interesting lore. One thing they all share however is their resilience on the battlefield, with one marine capable of fending off countless foes before finally being overwhelmed. As such, some players may seek out cheat mods to make their Astartes hero as invincible as they are in the lore.
This mod allows players to control the Ultramarines, Blood Ravens, or Black Templars as well as providing new weapons for their captain to wield. There is also the option to play with cheats that make the player character invincible while removing the need to reload with infinite stocks of ammo and grenades.
10 A Helmet For Titus
Space marine fans are often divided on the subject of helmets. While some embrace the absurdity of a super-soldier charging around an active warzone with his head exposed to stray bullets and shrapnel, others prefer their marines to look more professional. Even some of the most expensive models for space marines, such as the Ultramarine Primarch Roboute Guilliman, come with optional bare heads and helmets for this reason.
One modder by the name of Wraether, created a simple download that gives Titus a standard ultramarines helmet. Titus's new headgear is capable of being covered in gore just like the rest of his armor.
9 Project Ultra
Of all the space marine legions, the Ultramarines are considered by many to be the poster boys for 40k. Not only have they recently had their Primarch return from the dead, but they have also been the main focal point of recent editions of the tabletop game.
Project Ultra celebrates the boys in blue by allowing players to witness the Ultramarines in their full glory. It includes new weapons and more detailed armor sets for the different ranks of marines. This mod also rebalances the main character which is great for experienced players looking to make the game more challenging.
8 Space Marine HQ Reshade
One issue standing in the way of players enjoying the visceral bloodbath Space Marine has to offer is its dated graphics. The solid gameplay is, unfortunately, let down by murky environments that can make it hard to see the enemies.
This fan-made reshade aims to solve this problem. Not only are the textures slightly higher quality, but this mod also brightens the game color palette to alleviate the dusty grey aesthetic of the original. The lighting fixes will help players really appreciate the game's expansive and detailed environments.
7 Captain Titus And His Veterans
Fans of the table-top Warhammer 40k game may find that Captain Titus looks too similar to a common space marine in the base game. Often as a marine rises through the ranks, they earn more intricate armor, embellished with engravings and scrolls denoting their past victories.
The purpose behind this mod is to make Titus look like a proper ultramarine commander, by giving him a full set of artificer armor. As well as altering Titus, the download also affects his squadmates, transforming them into veteran marines worthy of fighting alongside their captain.
6 Angry Marines
The space marines may look on the surface like the stoic defenders of humanity, but they are more than capable of experiencing human emotions despite their super-human status. In fact, even the marines who haven't been tainted by chaos are very good at feeling one particular emotion, namely rage.
The angry marines mod alters certain animations and re-colors the chainsaw to make the saviors of humanity look suitably brutal on the battlefield. There are a few altered sounds as well, although sadly the author couldn't record new voice lines to make Titus himself sound angry.
5 A Difficulty Mod For Tougher Hordes
While many mods include cheat modes that make the game even easier, some aim to make Space Marine more challenging. Veteran players who are passing the time waiting for the upcoming Warhammer 40k Darktide game may want to try this mod if they feel the game's combat is too easy.
A Space Marine fan made a mod for hardcore players that raises the difficulty by making all enemies deal double damage. This will necessitate players weighing their options before charging into swarms of Orks adding a more strategic element to the game.
4 A Realistic Graphical Overhaul
Games Workshop has promised many more video games set in the 40k universe over the coming years, including an Adeptus Sororitas game called Battle Sister. While many of the old games still hold up, fans will be able to look forward to seeing the grim darkness of the 41st Millenium like they have never seen it before.
As well as making the game less murky, one player has set out to give Space Marine more modern graphics. This fan-made graphical overhaul brings the 2011 game back to life with better textures and vastly improved lighting.
3 Warhammer 40K In First Person
Necromunda: Hired Gun was a recently released, high-action FPS game set in the 40k universe. While this game allowed players to experience the titular hive city first hand, they were forced to play as a lowly bounty hunter rather than a lethal Astartes warrior.
Thanks to this mod created by DovaMan24, is it now possible to play Space Marine in the first person. Even though it is still a test mod, long-time fans of the game will enjoy the opportunity to witness Titus' adventure from a new perspective. With large hordes of enemies constantly attacking from all sides, players trying this mod would be well advised to stay aware of their surroundings.
2 The Mega Mod Pack
There are countless smaller mods and patches that allow players to change the color of their armor, or swap standard weapons out for different ones. Players can make their protagonist completely customizable and play the game as a member of any space marine faction, including pre-heresy ones.
This super mod, aims to compile all of this fan-made content and is the most extensive update available for Space Marine. As well as adding plenty of new features for loyalist Astartes, this mod also gives players the chance to dive into combat as a lethal chaos marine.
1 Space Marine Augmented
There were numerous DLC's released for Space Marine, however many of the features they offer are already provided by mods. Sadly Relic and THQ Nordic have no plans to make a sequel, but a group of dedicated fans have come up with the next best thing.
Space Marine Augmented not only attempts to update the game's graphics and fix its balance issues but also to collate other existing mods into one simple download packed with content. The developers of this mod have included new classic space marine weapons, such as power fists and thunder hammers, as well as the promise of whole new maps in future updates.
