Lois Lane might not be a superhero, but that didn't stop her from becoming an iconic character. Lois did get special powers multiple times in the comics, but for the most part, she does more than well without them. She manages to balance both her personal life and her work life. That's no easy task considering Lois works for a major newspaper and her boyfriend/husband is none other than Superman.
Lois has appeared in multiple films and TV shows, both live-action and animated. Two actresses are better-known for playing Lois in live-action movies than others - Margot Kidder and Amy Adams. However, Lois has had great quotes in more of her movies, regardless of who portrayed her.
10 What Makes People Great
Lois has no powers but isn't jealous of superheroes as she realizes their importance to the world. In the Justice League (2017), despite everything that's happened, Lois still believes superheroes have a place in the world. She thinks superheroes can inspire people, remind them of something important. As Lois writes in her article: "There are heroes among us. Not to make us feel smaller, but to remind us of what makes us great." After all, even those who have no powers can be heroes.
9 Light In The Dark
One of the things that makes Lois sympathetic in the DCEU is her optimism. Lois has no illusions that the world is perfect. In a way, she's more realistic than her boyfriend. But she's also not as jaded as other people. Lois thinks that even the most difficult times can lead to something good: "The world has grown dark, and while we have reasons to fear we have the strength not to. There are heroes among us, to remind us that only from fear, comes courage. That only from the darkness, can we truly feel the light." That's an admirable attitude from someone who has been through a tragic loss.
8 Responsible For Her Actions
Superman gets in trouble in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). He's not the only one. Lois faces danger in her job and when Superman saves her, people turn against him and criticize him. Lois is unhappy about the whole business but not because she's afraid for herself. She's willing to acknowledge that she made a mistake which is very mature of her: "I don't have a halo over my head, General. I walked into the desert, people died. It keeps me awake at night. It should." That's the type of self-reflection many superheroes could envy Lois.
7 Not A Lady
Unlike some of her other quotes, this one is rather brief. "I'm not a lady, I'm a journalist," Lois says when she's talking to a general of a foreign nation. The interview goes south, but it's not Lois's fault. Lois Lane is one of the most civil characters in the movies.
She doesn't let the superhero business faze her. She's devoted to her job and determined to excel at it. She usually manages that, even though she makes mistakes sometimes, just like all people.
6 Everybody Loves Superman
Things aren't going so well for Superman and Lois Lane in Superman Returns (2006). Superman has left Earth for several years. When he comes back, he learns Lois isn't single, and she has a son. In one scene, Lois discusses Superman with her boyfriend Richard. At one point, Lois mentions: "He was Superman. Everyone was in love with him." It's a small scene but Lois has a point there - many fans find it impossible not to love Superman. Superman usually represents the best character traits any person can have, including kindness, intelligence, and hopefulness - which makes him very likable.
5 True Love And Happiness
The subsequent Superman movies with Christopher Reeve weren't as good as the first one. And the final, fourth film, Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987) got an exceptionally low rating. Still, it had a few great moments. One of these happened when Lois talked about her feelings for Clark/Superman: "I'd want to tell him that I cherished the time we spent together, and I never expected anything from him. Even if I only saw him for a few moments, it made me happy. And I'd want to tell him that I love him and that I'll always love him." If this isn't a heartfelt love confession, it's hard to say what is!
4 Nothing Compares
Superman sets the bar pretty high. He can do amazing things, things no-one else can do. Lois is well aware of what Superman can do. In the end, Superman being amazing ruins other things for her a little.
As Lois explains: "Once a girl's seen Superman in action, Niagara Falls kind of leaves you cold. You know what I mean?" But if she changed her mind, Superman could probably fly her to Niagara Falls in a short time.
3 It's All About Priorities
All women, especially those with long hair, will probably relate to this one. Lois has her priorities set straight. At one point during Superman II (1980), she gets to complain. "Where's my comb? Where's my comb? God, not only have I lost my mind, I've lost my comb," Lois says. Losing one's mind is unfortunate, but losing one's comb is a real tragedy. Especially if one is about to go out or to work.
2 The Moment She Fell For Him
One of the more popular The Simpsons memes is the one showing the exact moment when somebody's heart broke in half. Lois has the exact opposite of this in the first Superman film from 1978. When Superman flies her around the city, it's the moment she falls for him. Her inner monologue proves it: "Can you read my mind? Do you know what it is that you do to me? I don't know who you are. Just a friend from another star. Here I am, like a kid out of school. Holding hands with a god. (...) If you need to be loved... here I am. Read my mind." As far as classic superhero monologues go, this is one of the best.
1 Lois Mixes Words
The Superman movies have plenty of hilarious moments. One of the best happens when Superman takes Lois for a flight. He then drops her off at her apartment, changes to Clark Kent, and goes to pick Lois up for their supposed date. Lois is still out of it, charmed by Superman, so when Clark mention he's going to show her the time of her life, her reaction is priceless: "That's Clark, nice."
