Since it's release in 2019, Apex Legends has been adored by fans and has gathered an impressive playerbase of highly-skilled gamers. One of the very many things players seem to enjoy most about the game is its map pool. In fact, players can't seem to decide on which location is their favorite and are often tossed up between Kings Canyon, Olympus and World's Edge. In short, if Apex Legends have done one thing exceptionally right, it's their map design.

An exciting aspect of the game that fans seem to always eagerly await is the addition of the Town Takeovers - a legend themed area of a map that contains unique features based on a character's abilities. There's been a number of these areas implemented into the game over the years, each being just as impressive, and incredibly fun, as the next. So, which characters currently have a legend themed area?

9 Octane's Gauntlet

octane gauntlet

Octane's Gauntlet is a mid-tier loot zone in Kings Canyon, sandwiched between Airbase and Relic, and the first Town Takeover to be implemented into the game - introduced during the Iron Crown collection event in season 2. Prior to its release, this area was known as West Settlement and looked extremely different to the very place fans know and love still today. Gauntlet is a racecourse filled with Octane's very own launch pads; it features a ring of fire in the very center, which awards the player a piece of either epic or legendary tier loot upon going through it.

All in all, Gauntlet has become arguably one of the best, most iconic locations in the game; it's a drop spot that almost always guarantees a player a chaotic, and incredibly fun, start to a match filled with close up combat and pretty good loot.

8 Singh Labs

labs

Singh Labs is a mid-tier loot area in Kings Canyon, with high-tier loot within the lab itself. It is Wraith's Town Takeover. Originally, this location was named 'Nesting Grounds' but during the Voidwalker event in season 2, was completely replaced by the very lab that, as a result of Project: Wraith, made the interdimensional skirmisher who she is today. Singh Labs is based on the 'Voidwalker' short, which released just a day before the trailer for its accompanying event.

Players can get to the interior section of the labs either by entering through the huge dimensional rift above the building or through the large doors on its exterior section. Singh Labs remains a widely popular area of the map, especially upon dropping - although, it did see some changes during season 5 when both a tunnel was implemented inside its interior (connecting it to ARES Capacitor) and a few additional buildings were incorporated to its exterior.

7 The Mirage Voyage

mirage voyage

The Mirage Voyage is a very special location; it's the only area that is featured on more than one map. In fact, this hovercraft can be explored by players in World's Edge, Storm Point, Broken Moon, Party Crasher and, previously, Kings Canyon. Mirage's beloved party boat was first introduced to World's Edge during the Holo-Day Bash event of season 3 but was later removed in season 6 and relocated to Kings Canyon in season 7, although it was soon removed once more and, instead, transformed into the Arenas Map, 'Party Crasher'.

Mirage bought three additional party boats, after crashing his previous one, and named them all Mirage à Trois - leading to their return, this time to a number of maps, during the game's 4th anniversary. These three boats, like Mirage Voyage, contain a panel which activates fireworks, loud music and several dancing decoys as well as two guaranteed epic, or legendary, tier cargo bots to burst from the floor. The ship is decorated with a hot tub, dance floor, grill and a disco ball that can be shot by the player for loot.

6 Bloodhound's Trials

bloodhound trials

Bloodhound's Trials is a high-tier area located beneath Sniper's Ridge in World's Edge, incorporated into the game during 'The Old Ways' event in season 4. This location is a cave which features several panels that the player can activate to release prowlers; upon killing these prowlers, they will be granted access to a selection of high-tier loot.

Inside Bloodhound's Trials, there are a few artifacts that can be seen: a skull of a flyer, a hologram of a Charge Rifle and both uncle Artur's helmet and shield - while playing Bloodhound, the player can interact with these items and have them explain the story behind each exhibit.

5 Crypto's Map Room

Crypto's Map Room is another incredibly designed Town Takeover, introduced during season 5's Lost Treasures event and located in Kings Canyon to the south of The Repulsor, ultimately replacing Landing Pad.

This building is reasonably normal, until the player reaches the bottom floor - here, they can activate a console that shows the position of all enemy teams around the map, as well as the next ring location, however, enemies nearby will be alerted. This function essentially merges the class perks of both Recon and Defense legends together and, generally speaking, fits Crypto's character to a T.

4 Pathfinder's Fight Night

fight night

Pathfinder's Fight Night is a fan favorite area, introduced during season 7's Fight Night event. Based off of the Fight Night short, this location is in Olympus and sits between Docks and Turbine; its main feature is its boxing ring filled with high-tier loot.

Players that enter this ring are restricted to using only melee attacks - weapons, abilities and ultimates cannot be used. The ring itself is guarded by a shield, meaning outside projectiles, abilities and ultimates can't harm those inside.

3 Caustic Treatment

caustic treatment

Caustic Treatment was introduced during season 8's Chaos Theory event and is, of course, Caustic's town takeover. This area's main attraction is the huge laboratory which replaced what was originally Water Treatment; it's located on the south end of Kings Canyon.

The main feature of said building is its panel which drains the toxin on the floor below and opens the few cages there, allowing players to pick up a range of high-tier loot. However, this is timed - players must reach these items before the dangerous toxins fill the area again, or else they will begin to take damage. Caustic Treatment also has an observation room to which only Caustic, or Wattson, can enter. Originally, this room allowed the player to listen to a voice message left by Caustic himself, but that has seen been removed - although, players can still access the room itself.

2 Rampart's Big Maude

big maude

During season 10's Evolution event, Rampart's Big Maude was introduced to World's Edge. Built nextdoor to Lava City, Big Maude is not only Rampart's personal shop but a paintball course too.

This location is home to an incredibly unique feature of the game, exclusive to this map only - Vend-it Machines. Players can use crafting metals they've collected to purchase a selection of fully-kitted weapons, all of which work simultaneously as a paintball gun. These guns have the 'Splatter Rounds' hop-up which means they shoot both paint-loaded rounds and reload faster.

1 Lifeline's Clinic

lifeline clinic

The most recent Town Takeover is based off of Lifeline, specifically Lifeline's Clinic, which was added to Olympus during season 13's Awakening event. This location, which sits behind Gardens, is based on the 'Family Business' short; the main building is, of course, a clinic. An interesting feature of Lifeline's Clinic is the med-bay, this area will heal any player stood inside - although, it does have a limited healing potential and, as a result, often needs time to recharge.

Other features of the building include: a guaranteed high-tier loot item that spawns in the very center, three examination rooms that each contain two medkits, a console that spawns one care package each game and a lower floor filled with instruments the player can interact with and two cargo bot disco balls.

Apex Legends is available to play on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch.
