A wedding is a memorable event in the life of every person, especially if they're getting married to somebody they really care about. That's true both in life and in movies. Unsurprisingly, movie weddings are most often associated with romance movies or romantic comedies. More than one movie belonging to this genre revolves around the organization of a wedding.

However, several notable weddings have appeared in movies of other genres. The most iconic movie weddings then left such a strong impression on the audience that it doesn't matter how many years have passed since the movie's release. These weddings continue to charm the audience, even though they cause trouble for the heroes more often than not.

5 My Best Friend's Wedding (1997)

My Best Friend's Wedding 1997

Julia Roberts was the queen of romantic comedies in the 1990s, and one of her best-known genre movies from this time period breaks the usual mold of romantic comedies. Roberts stars as Julianne, a girl who decides to get her best friend Michael for herself. The only problem is that Michael is set to marry a different woman, and he seems to be perfectly in love. Unlike other romantic comedies, My Best Friend's Wedding doesn't end with the heroine getting the man she wants.

Instead, Julianne acknowledges that she has to move on and lets Michael marry Kimmy, played by Cameron Diaz. Considering how important the wedding is for the plot and the fact that Julianne almost causes it to be canceled, the fact that it happens in the movie's finale is a satisfaction both for the characters and for the viewers who have been waiting for the wedding for close to two hours.

4 My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2002

Nia Vardalos had a hard time persuading the studios to make the story and not change the wedding to an Italian one. Her effort paid out in the end and My Big Fat Greek Wedding became a successful romantic comedy that got a sequel in 2016. Vardalos plays Toula, a thirty-year-old woman who's still single, something her family isn't so happy about. One day, Toula meets the teacher Ian, and they fall for each other.

Unfortunately, Ian isn't Greek, which is something Toula's family might have a problem coming to terms with. Considering the obstacles Toula and Ian have to overcome on the journey to their wedding, it's easy to sympathize with them. When the titular wedding arrives, it's lively, colorful, and touching, simply everything the viewers could have asked for from a romantic comedy. What's more, it allows the non-Greek viewers to get a glimpse into the Greek culture, including, but not only, their wedding customs.

3 Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End (2007)

Will and Elizabeth get married during a fight in Pirates of the Caribbean At World's End

Most movie weddings don't go without drama, otherwise, it wouldn't be fun for the audience. But for the most part, the most dangerous thing that can happen to the future married couple is that somebody is going to crash their wedding, or they might lose their rings. It isn't so common for the couple to fight for their lives and get married at the same time.

Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann broke all conventions when they got married quickly during a fight on a ship in the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and Captain Barbossa oversaw the brief ceremony. Will and Elizabeth twirl around in the scene, using their swords to stop their enemies, but even so, find the time to exchange their wedding vows and seal the finished wedding ceremony with a kiss. It's fast and dynamic, and also shows that even though the couple has had a rocky road, they're stronger together than when they're on their own.

2 Mamma Mia! (2008)

Mamma Mia! 2008

Accompanied by the legendary songs by Abba, this time sung by the actors themselves, Mamma Mia! is primarily a movie about love, a both current one and a lost one. Amanda Seyfriend plays Sophie, a young girl who's about to marry her boyfriend Sky, but before that happens, Sophie wants to know which one of her mother's three past boyfriends is her father. So she invites all of them to the island where her mother Donna (Meryl Streep) owns a hotel. Of course, Donna has no idea that the potential fathers are coming which leads to a lot of surprising situations.

Even though the movie doesn't answer the main question - which of Donna's ex-partners is Sophie's father - it still works. And the wedding which comes in the movie's finale not only brings Sophie and Sky even closer but also serves to reunite Donna with her lost love again. As a result, it's the ultimate happy ending that a romantic summer musical like Mamma Mia! deserves. What makes the wedding and the entire movie even more memorable is the setting as Mamma Mia! was filmed on the Greek islands Skopelos and Skiathos.

1 Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010)

Bill and Fleur get married in Harry Potter

Despite the fact that the Harry Potter movies work with many couples (such as Harry and Ginny, or Hermione and Ron), the only memorable wedding scene is when Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour get married. They go through with the wedding despite, or maybe because the wizarding world is at war, and they might die at any second. While Bill and Fleur get married without a hitch, something the main trio is able to witness, the reception later gets interrupted by a message that states that the enemies are coming.

Not only are Bill and Fleur one of the fan-favorite couples, but their wedding takes place in a beautiful setting, and it also helps the audience understand the mindset of the characters. In a world where Voldemort is at large, the characters must be ready to enjoy every moment of peace and happiness they can get - which the wedding symbolizes.
