Slitterhead is an upcoming horror game that takes the genre back to its roots with grotesque monster design and nerve-wracking suspense. Made by Bokeh Game Studio and headed by Keiichiro Toyama, responsible for the Silent Hill franchise, Slitterhead comes as a breath of fresh air to the gaming scene with what looks to be a terrifying story and intricate levels of explorations and investigation.
Not much is known about the title, only that it is what appears to be a survival horror game that will drop layers into the haunted streets of Tokyo where they must fend off ghastly monsters and demented environments in a first-person experience. While more information is released, players can tackle a long list of similar games to keep themselves occupied until a locked-in release date is announced. 7 Fatal Frame
Miku Hinasaki is desperate to find her brother, Mafuyu, who went missing while investigating a famous haunted mansion. While looking for a renowned author, Mafuyu vanished without a trace. Now Miku has come to find out what happened to her brother and the others that have disappeared inside Himuro Mansion.
Players will take control of Miku and explore the haunted halls of the mansion, searching for clues and combating evil spirits to get to the bottom of the mystery. Players will be able to take on ghosts and other entities with their trusty camera, which may be the key to setting their souls free.
6 P.T.
Players step behind the controls of a nameless character trapped inside a horror-filled house. In true psychological horror fashion, players walk aimlessly around the abode, where each pass reveals clues and subtle changes that will push players further and further over the edge.
Created by Hideo Kojima, known for Death Stranding, the twisted and mentally tasking storytelling of the game truly immerses players in the experience. P.T. will force players to play with the lights on and will leave a heavy impression after the first playthrough.
5 Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Resident Evil is one of the most successful horror games in the world, with an extensive library of over ten games since its first release in the late nineties. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is the seventh installment in the main line of Resident Evil games and is the first game in the franchise to transfer the style of gameplay into a first-person investigative style.
Players take control of Ethan Winters and are trapped inside a plantation while searching for the character's lost wife. Players take on the infected Baker family and try to survive the night while searching for clues and slaying monstrous undead along the way.
4 The Evil Within
A down-on-his-luck detective is lured into a monstrous hell world with the hopes of saving his daughter. Unprepared for what awaits him, Sebastian must tackle horrid levels and decrepit monsters while traversing mind-bending locations in order to find a way to save his daughter.
Although Sebastian is driven by the need to rid himself of his grief and pain, this attracts the darkest monstrosities ever seen to stop him from completing his task. The Evil Within tells a psychologically taxing story that will have players on the edge of their seats the whole way through.
3 Resident Evil 2 Remake
Capcom's Resident Evil franchise is one of the most beloved horror franchises in gaming. Recently, the original Resident Evil 2 was given a ground-up remake where fans could revisit the original story, cast of characters, and levels with updated graphics, gameplay, and extended story elements.
Players load back into Racoon City upon the dawn of the zombie apocalypse that would change the world forever. The stories of Leon Scott Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and Jill Valentine are revisited, with players having to get the heroes out of the city in one piece.
2 Outlast
Outlast is a first-person psychological horror game. Players play as a journalist to get to the bottom of a string of strange murders that have caused an asylum in Colorado to be shut down and quarantined. Unfortunately, every avenue to contain the madness inside has been met with extreme casualties, and the government has decided to let sleeping dogs lie.
Mile Upshur steps into the madhouse and gets in way over his head as he discovers that the facility is overrun by psychotic animalistic patients that have descended too far into their madness to be called human.

Silent Hill is another beloved franchise in the horror genre that has had multiple game releases, including a string of feature film releases. The original game's story follows Harry Mason, who becomes enthralled by a small town called Silent Hill while looking for his adopted daughter.
Unfortunately, Harry is ill-equipped for wheat Silent Hill has to offer as a satanic cult is in the process of performing a ritual to summon a demonic god, and somehow, Harry's daughter is at the center of all the chaos. It is no doubt that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises in gaming, and fans should definitely give the series a try while waiting for the new project by the game's creator.
